I am an avid fan of Amy Knupp’s writing, and her books are always a joy to revisit. It never feels like reading a standalone; rather, it’s like stepping back into a world where every story is intricately connected to the last. While her novels function perfectly as individual tales, reading them in order allows you to know the townspeople, the landmarks, the animals—including the delightful Esmerelda the llama—and every child and adult so intimately that you could practically draw a map of Dragonfly Lake yourself.

Book Description

He’s a single dad in over his head. She’s his best friend who moves in to help…

Kemp

I went from carefree to single dad overnight, and I’m in way over my head.

My life was already packed—firefighter shifts, running a brewery—but nothing prepared me for this. Or for how much I need Anna.

She steps in without hesitation, like she always does. But keeping things to just friends is even harder than being a dad.
We’re living in close quarters, sharing responsibilities, and building something that looks a lot like a family.

Now I’m falling for my best friend—and I don’t know how to stop.

Anna

Loving Kemp has always been my secret. Safe. One-sided. Controlled.

Until now.

Helping him means stepping into his world—into forced proximity, quiet moments, and a life that feels dangerously like mine.

The more time we spend together, the harder it is to pretend I don’t want more.

Because this isn’t just a crush anymore. It’s everything.

And if he doesn’t feel the same… I could lose the one person I can’t live without.

Single Desire is a single dad, friends to lovers, forced proximity, small town romance with heat, heart, and humor. It's the sixth and final stand-alone book in the Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake series. Dive in now for a spicy, heartwarming escape to Dragonfly Lake, TN!

My Thoughts

I am an avid fan of Amy Knupp’s writing, and her books are always a joy to revisit. It never feels like reading a standalone; rather, it’s like stepping back into a world where every story is intricately connected to the last. While her novels function perfectly as individual tales, reading them in order allows you to know the townspeople, the landmarks, the animals—including the delightful Esmerelda the llama—and every child and adult so intimately that you could practically draw a map of Dragonfly Lake yourself.

Single Desire is the sixth and final installment in the Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake series, and it provides a beautiful culmination to the saga. We have watched these men—Knox, Max, Ben, Chance, West, and Luke—support one another through their fears and life transitions since their introduction in the North Brothers series. Seeing the entire cast, along with familiar faces from the North Brothers books, come together in this final chapter feels less like an overwhelming crowd and more like returning home to people whose histories and backstories you deeply understand.

At the center of this story are Kemp and Anna, two characters we have come to know well. Kemp is a hardworking volunteer firefighter and a passionate brewmaster at the Rusty Anchor. He carries a heavy sense of duty to his late father’s firefighting legacy, often at the expense of his own dreams for the brewery. Anna, a fixture at the local inn, has been his best friend since kindergarten. They share a bond forged in childhood, but their dynamic is thrown into chaos when Kemp suddenly learns he has a four-month-old son, Oliver, following the tragic death of the baby’s mother.

Overnight, Kemp’s life is upended. He is determined to step up as a father, but between his grueling fire department shifts and the demands of the brewery, he is drowning. When he forgets the baby in the car during a frantic market run, it becomes clear he needs help. Anna steps in, first as a babysitter and eventually by moving into his home to help him balance childcare with his pursuit of a lieutenant position at the fire station.

While they have always been close, the forced proximity exposes the fragile reality of their "just friends" status. We get a front-row seat to their innermost thoughts, revealing that the feelings between them are far from platonic. Both are haunted by complex family histories—Kemp struggling with the shadow of his father’s expectations and Anna dealing with the fractured, cold relationships within her own family. As they navigate the pressures of parenthood, work, and their own unspoken histories, they must decide if they are willing to risk their lifelong friendship for a chance at something more.

The story is a delight, filled with the warmth of a supportive community. From the women’s subtle meddling to the Single Dads Group throwing an unforgettable "Dadchelor Party" for Kemp, the narrative is packed with humor, charm, and poignant moments. The dual narration by Willa Jaymes and Lee Samuels is brilliant, capturing the emotional depth of these characters perfectly. Single Desire is a satisfying, steamy, and deeply heartwarming conclusion to the series. While I am sad to leave Dragonfly Lake, I am already looking forward to whatever Amy Knupp writes next.
