Bad for Business by Kat Singleton is an absolute banger that I simply could not put down. As the second standalone novel in the Pembroke Hills series, this billionaire romance delivered exactly the kind of serotonin boost I needed. If you are a fan of Kat’s Black Tie Billionaire series, you will adore this return to that lush, exclusive world, though this installment adds a delicious touch of the forbidden.

Book Description

From the #1 bestselling billionaire romance author of Black Ties & White Lies comes the second stand-alone novel set at an exclusive country club in the Hamptons. Bad for Business is a hate to love, black cat x golden retriever, billionaire romance.

Ryker Davenport is the reckless, arrogant heir to his family’s company and my ticket to a big promotion.

As a publicist at one of the top PR firms in New York, I’m used to handling tough cases—not impossible ones. But how better to prove I’m deserving of that promotion than to turn Ryker back into the golden boy everyone once thought him to be and convince the board that he’s fit to lead. The only catch? We’ve got some history—the complicated kind.

Spending the summer working in the Hamptons wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t stuck here with the one man who knows just how to get under my skin, and into my head. I’ve spent so much time with him that it almost feels like our fighting has slowly turned into flirting. Now I’m worried it’s not just my head he’s getting into—but my heart.

The job was to prove to the world that Ryker isn’t bad for business, but in doing so, I may have proved to myself that Ryker isn’t bad for me…

My Thoughts

Bad for Business by Kat Singleton is an absolute banger that I simply could not put down. As the second standalone novel in the Pembroke Hills series, this billionaire romance delivered exactly the kind of serotonin boost I needed. If you are a fan of Kat’s Black Tie Billionaire series, you will adore this return to that lush, exclusive world, though this installment adds a delicious touch of the forbidden.

The story follows Ryker Davenport, the reckless, golden-boy heir to a multi-billion dollar business who finds himself in hot water and in desperate need of an image overhaul. Enter Camille, the "ice princess" and high-powered publicist tasked with cleaning up his reputation over a summer in the Hamptons. They are the definition of a black cat and golden retriever dynamic, but the real tension stems from their messy past: a one-night stand that ended in a misunderstanding, leaving them as enemies forced to live under the same roof.

Ryker may appear flirty and fun on the surface, but he is deeply broken, while the seemingly uptight, Type A Camille is just as guarded. Watching their relationship evolve is a masterclass in slow-burn romance. The banter is top-tier, filled with snarky comments that had me laughing out loud, and the palpable tension between them makes the eventual payoff incredibly satisfying. Beyond the romance, I truly appreciated the depth of their character development; at their core, both are just striving to be accepted by their parents and find the courage to love themselves and each other.

The audiobook experience was exceptional, with narrators J.F. Harding and Vanessa Edwin truly hitting the mark. They brought Ryker and Camille to life with such chemistry that I was hooked from the very first scene. Kat Singleton has crafted a well-written plot that balances humor, high-stakes professional pressure, and raw emotional vulnerability perfectly. This book lived up to every one of my expectations, and I am already looking forward to whatever she writes next.
