This book is an absolutely entertaining mix of Regency romance, high-stakes espionage, and a delightful touch of magical chaos. Lady Rebecca and Lord Nathaniel share a wonderfully complicated history as childhood sweethearts torn apart by a family rift and a decade of misunderstandings.
Book Description
Lady Rebecca has spent ten years trying to forget the boy who stole her heart—and destroyed her family. Now Lord Nathaniel is back, still recklessly charming and absolutely forbidden. A man who cares for nothing but his own pleasure.
When a marriage contract could bind her to a traitor, Rebecca turns to the most dangerous weapon of all—a mysterious truth serum that reveals not just lies, but the most inconvenient desires of the heart. And when the serum goes awry, half-dressed barons and ballroom scandals are the least of Rebecca’s problems.
In a world where trust leads to betrayal, can two childhood sweethearts overcome a decade of deception to save regency England—and each other?
About Katherine Lyons
Flirty, dirty and fun! That’s how Katherine Lyons likes her love stories. One would think that would lead her to contemporary romance, but she’s always loved the witty dialogue and hot, sexy humor of regency romance. She’s a big fan of The Bridgertons, Big Bang Theory (even though it’s over), and her favorite movie is The Avengers because she loves the MCU.

The Truth Serum by Katherine Lyons is the second installment of the My Lady’s Potions series. This book is an absolutely entertaining mix of Regency romance, high-stakes espionage, and a delightful touch of magical chaos. When Nate suddenly returns after ten years, appearing to be nothing more than a reckless rake, it is impossible not to be drawn into their "push-and-pull" dynamic. Rebecca has spent years being verbally beaten down by her brother and hearing lies that skewed her perception of the past, making her struggle to trust her own heart feel incredibly poignant.
What makes this story shine is how it balances genuine emotional depth with lighthearted mischief. While Nate’s "scoundrel" reputation hides his dangerous life as a spy working against Napoleon, the narrative stays grounded in the heartfelt rediscovery of a lost connection.
The introduction of the truth serum is a brilliant twist, leading to hilarious ballroom scandals, half-dressed barons, and awkward confessions. These moments perfectly offset the tension of Nate’s secrets and Rebecca’s looming marriage contract to a potential traitor. Watching Rebecca finally decide to dig for the truth rather than swallow the lies she’s been told is empowering, and Nate’s steadfast devotion to her is truly swoon-worthy.
Narrated in a superb duet by Persephone Lee and Christopher Tester, the audiobook brings a vibrant energy to the diverse cast of characters. From a meddling Duke to a hilarious Baron who adds a perfect dose of humor, the performances elevate the entire experience.
The story moves seamlessly from the vulnerable realities of their past to steamy, chemistry-filled encounters that feel entirely well-earned. By the time the final page turns, you are left completely enamored with the way they managed to peel back a decade of deception to save both Regency England and each other. It is a heartfelt and addictive ride that makes you wish the story would never end.
