Book Description

One splash changed everything!

Poor relation Kynthea Petrelli never dreamed she’d have a Season, but she is getting one…even if only as a companion to her younger, wayward cousin Zoe. Though Kynthea loves the girl, keeping up with her wild ideas is difficult, especially when Zoe sets her cap for England’s most eligible bachelor, and decides a love potion is the way to win his heart.

Unfortunately, it isn’t Zoe who trips and spills the potion on the oh-so-perfect Duke of Harle, but Kynthea. And before long, she finds herself the center of a scandal—and unexpectedly, the object of his desire.

As Kynthea’s reputation unravels, the duke can’t resist acting as her unlikely champion. But society expects him to marry for advantage and his mother is demanding a proper alliance. Yet the duke finds himself increasingly bewitched by the one woman he's forbidden to pursue.

It’s an impossible situation. But then, love potions aren’t for the faint of heart….

About Katherine Lyons

Flirty, dirty and fun! That’s how Katherine Lyons likes her love stories. One would think that would lead her to contemporary romance, but she’s always loved the witty dialogue and hot, sexy humor of regency romance. She’s a big fan of The Bridgertons, Big Bang Theory (even though it’s over), and her favorite movie is The Avengers because she loves the MCU.

My Thoughts

The Love Potion, the first book in Katherine Lyons' My Lady's Potions series, is a delightful, humorous, and captivating historical romance, brought vividly to life by the duet narration of Persephone Lee and Christopher Tester.

The story centers on Kynthea Petrelli, a young woman living as a companion to her younger cousin, Zoe, after the ill health of Zoe’s parents leaves them determined to see their daughter marry a duke before their inevitable decline. Zoe, a fiery and horse-mad teenager, has set her sights on Erasmus Oliver Arthur Stace, the Duke of Harle—or "Ras" to his friends—primarily because of his magnificent stables. Convinced a love potion is the solution, Zoe is determined to win his heart and drags Kynthea along on her scheme.

Ras, meanwhile, is being pressured into marriage by his overbearing mother. Though he isn't actively seeking a duchess, one woman keeps unexpectedly landing in his arms, and it is not Zoe. Zoe's plot backfires spectacularly when she trips Kynthea, resulting in the potion splashing directly onto Ras. Immediately seeing Zoe’s manipulation, Ras dismisses the young girl as unsuitable, both for her immaturity and her actions.

As Kynthea and Ras spend time together trying to navigate the fallout, unfounded and damaging gossip begins to destroy Kynthea's already precarious reputation as a poor relation. Seeing her plight, Ras steps in as her unlikely champion to undermine the damage. What follows is a delicious romp where the two find themselves falling for each other amidst the whispers of the ton. Kynthea, worried about her future, devises her own plan, but Ras, increasingly bewitched by the woman society forbids him to pursue, has a plan of his own.

Lyons delivers a wonderfully entertaining, emotional, and comical romance, featuring well-written, enjoyable characters. The narrative is noted for its lighthearted humor, which occasionally brushes against a slightly darker side, and includes very descriptive intimate scenes. This book is a wonderful blend of social satire, wit, and heartwarming connection, proving that love potions, even when spilled by accident, are not for the faint of heart. The audiobook's excellent narration adds significant depth and emotion, leaving the reader highly anticipating the next installment in the series.
