Whiskey Bargain is a beautiful, heartwarming story that I absolutely devoured. The story centers on Campbell Hawthorne and Durban Hennessy, two people bonded by the sting of betrayal who find an unexpected second chance at love.

Book Description

I thought I’d be miserable planning my ex’s wedding, but a rugged cowboy turned distiller knows just how to relieve the pressure.

Coming home to Huckleberry Springs, Montana, is hard enough. Begging my family for a job because I’m blacklisted up and down the West Coast? That’s tough. Patching up a broken heart after my cheating ex made me a spectacle? Stinks so bad. Drunkenly puking on Durban Hennessy, the hottest cowboy to ever work my daddy’s ranch? That’s just classic Campbell Hawthorne.

But even Durban doesn’t blame me much for that last one, because my first job as Daddy’s event coordinator? Planning my cousin’s wedding to my cheating ex at the family guest ranch. Because if I don’t, my uncle won’t sign over his share of the business.

The only bright spot? Durban is now part owner in the local distillery, and while he doesn’t do drama, distractions, or hot messes that just threw up on his boots, he’s not averse to saving damsels in distress. Once a ranch hand and now a distiller with a superiority complex, he’ll provide wet bar service throughout the wedding festivities—and some steamy, no-strings stress relief between events.

In return, I’ll help him patch up his own ego after getting dumped by his long-distance girlfriend. But when impromptu hookups turn into sleepovers that include intimate pillow talk, I know I’m in trouble. Because our whiskey bargain is set to end when the bride says I do.

About Walker Rose

I live the dream in my own slice of paradise where I get to enjoy colorful sunsets from my rocking chair while I’m working. I have my very own romance hero with Mr. Rose and there’s more than a few little rose buds running around. A couple aren’t so little anymore! We keep things interesting with cats and a dog and the critters that roam though the yard (fingers crossed the mountain lions stay away).

My Thoughts

Whiskey Bargain is a beautiful, heartwarming story that I absolutely devoured. The story centers on Campbell Hawthorne and Durban Hennessy, two people bonded by the sting of betrayal who find an unexpected second chance at love.

Campbell is returning home to pick up the pieces of her life after a public breakup, only to be tasked with the ultimate test: planning her cheating ex’s wedding to her own cousin. Enter Durban, a rugged cowboy turned whiskey distiller and part-owner of Foster House, who is nursing his own bruised ego after being dumped.

What begins as a "whiskey bargain"—a deal for some no-strings stress relief to survive the wedding festivities—gradually evolves into a restorative connection that neither of them saw coming. The chemistry between these two is palpable and feels incredibly genuine. I loved the "opposites attract" dynamic and the way Durban’s steady, supportive nature provided the anchor Campbell didn't know she needed.

Despite the complicated ex-drama, the story never feels heavy; instead, it balances spicy tension with deep emotional payoff. Walker Rose’s Montana setting is as immersive as ever, creating a world you simply don’t want to leave. The banter is sharp, the "older hottie" vibes are perfection, and that big scene at the end is an absolute "holy swoon" moment that left me smiling.

The duet narration by Marissa Clay and Will Speare truly brought this story to life. Marissa was delightful as the capable but underestimated Campbell, perfectly capturing her journey through hurt and uncertainty toward happiness and love. Will Speare was divine as the slightly grumpy, intense Durban; his sultry, swoon-worthy tone—especially when he calls her “Belle”—is enough to melt anyone.

These two talented voice actors elevated the material brilliantly, making the audiobook a must-listen. If you are looking for a small-town romance with heart, depth, and a hero who knows exactly how to support his woman, I cannot recommend Whiskey Bargain enough.
