This was the third and final installment of the ruinous love trilogy and it was the perfect ending, though I was sad to say goodbye.

Book Description

Doctor Fionn Kane is running from a broken heart, one he hopes to mend in small-town Nebraska, far away from his almost-fiancĂ© and his derailed surgical career. It’s a simpler life: head down, hard work, and absolutely no romantic relationships. He wants none of the circus he left behind in Boston.

But then the real circus finds him.

Motorcycle performer Rose Evans has spent a decade on the road with the Silveria Circus, and it suits her just fine, especially when she has the urge to indulge in a little murder when she’s not in the spotlight. But when a kill goes awry and she ends up with an injured leg, Rose finds herself stuck in Nebraska, at the home of the adorably nerdy town doctor.
The problem is, not every broken heart can be sewn back together.

. . . And the longer you stay in one place, the more likely your ghosts are to catch up

About Brynne Weaver

Writing has always been a hobby for Brynne. Even as a young child, she loved typing out stories on her grandmother’s typewriter. She wrote award-winning poetry and essays, and dabbled in various forms of fiction over the years. In 2019, Brynne committed to publishing more of her works, and released her first non-fiction book (under her real name!). She then began focusing on her first fantasy-romance (or ‘romantasy’) series, The Diviner. Next up was the three-part Shadow Realm paranormal dark romance series. Brynne then partnered with author Alexa Harlowe on the contemporary dark standalone romance, Black Sheep.

Brynne aspires to write female-focused stories about complex, resilient, imperfect characters who struggle with anger, trauma, fear, courage, and love.

My Thoughts

This was the third and final installment of the ruinous love trilogy and it was the perfect ending, though I was sad to say goodbye.

In this final chapter of the trilogy, we get to know Fionn Kane, the youngest Kane brother. Dr Fionn Kane has spent a lifetime keeping his darker side at bay. He became a doctor so he could help people and make up for the wrong he did as a child. Fionn has kept that dark secret to himself for years, not even telling his brothers what he did. Then in walks Rose, a woman who embraces who she is. A woman unafraid of her dark side, and when she asked Fionn for help, he is lost to her. Can he learn to embrace all of himself and love Rose or is he destined to be alone and continue to fight?

Rose is determined to help other women get out of bad situations. She is determined to never allow another woman who asks her for help get harmed. So Rose does what she feels is right, she decides to be hands on helping a woman in need, but when it leads to her being injured, she is left at the mercy of Fionn Kane. As Rose gets to know Fionn and his family, she begins to see that Fionn is more and starts to fall for him. But can she allow him to become involved in what she is doing knowing it could ruin him? Even more importantly, can she let him go to keep him safe?

I loved all the Kane men but there was something extra special about Fionn. Maybe it was that he had a tortured soul or maybe it was his white knight personality but he was just perfect. It was kind of funny how unlike his brothers he didn't fall headlong into the dark side of his personality, though he was easily led there. Oh, and Rose, she was the best. I adore her personality, her outspokenness, and how she tortured Fionn just to watch him squirm. these two characters together were a chef kiss.

The author did a fabulous job of creating these morally gray characters that you couldn't help but love. Plus the things she came up with from a crazy raccoon to cotton candy being used in creative ways was mind-blowing. I am sad to say goodbye to Fionn and Rose, as well as all the Kane men.

Overall I absolutely loved this book and I am a huge fan of the author and can't wait to read more by her.

Side note, I admit that while reading this book, I would also listen to the audio version and it was brilliant. I think in this series I enjoyed the audio so much more because it brought the book to life for me. Not to mention I laughed out loud so many times.
