Here With You by S.M. West is a terrific, emotionally charged small-town romance that completely sweeps you away once the story hits its stride. While it takes a little bit of time to fully dive into the pacing at the very beginning, pressing on is incredibly rewarding. The author has crafted a deeply engaging, complex story that perfectly blends an enemies-to-lovers dynamic with a high-stakes emotional slow burn.
Book Description
They call him The Mad One.
A cocky hotshot on the racetrack.
While I’m not a fan, we do agree on one thing:
Maddox Hartley doesn’t want me in his life.
But when your editor benches you, you make the consolation assignment count.
Because my job isn’t just a paycheck, it’s justice for my brother.
I’ll play along. I just didn’t expect him to be so hard to resist.
And the more time I spend in his orbit, the harder it is to remember why I can’t let myself want him.
A reporter falling for her subject only ends one way—in ruins.
I know better.
Once my article runs, I’ll leave Winslow Grove behind.
What I don’t realize yet is the story was never on the line. It's always been my heart…

My Thoughts
Here With You by S.M. West is a terrific, emotionally charged small-town romance that completely sweeps you away once the story hits its stride. While it takes a little bit of time to fully dive into the pacing at the very beginning, pressing on is incredibly rewarding. The author has crafted a deeply engaging, complex story that perfectly blends an enemies-to-lovers dynamic with a high-stakes emotional slow burn.
The story follows Grace Kelly Buchanan, an investigative journalist for the Los Angeles Daily Journal who is fiercely driven to uncover the truth about a pharmaceutical company whose drugs she believes were responsible for her brother Cary's tragic death. Just as she feels she is getting too close to the truth, her editor benches her from the expose and sidelines her with a consolation assignment: traveling to the small town of Winslow Grove to write a six-week feature profile on a retired racing legend.
That legend is Maddox Hartley, known on the track as "The Mad One." A cocky, hotshot Formula One champion, Maddox abruptly retired at the top of his career at just twenty-seven years old and has transitioned to a quieter life coaching high school basketball. He is carrying heavy secrets regarding the real reasons behind his sudden exit—burdens tied to his ex-girlfriend and his former team owner—and he has absolutely no desire to let a reporter dig into his past.
From their rocky start, neither Maddox nor Grace wants anything to do with this article. Grace views the assignment as an annoying distraction from her quest for justice, while Maddox views her as a threat to the privacy he is trying so hard to protect. However, as the forced proximity wears them down, fragile trust begins to build. They slowly realize that they aren't enemies, but rather two heavily guarded souls who have both suffered immense loss and need someone to help share their burdens.
The romance takes a delicious, slow-burn ride before hitting the track at full speed with undeniable, scorching chemistry. Alongside the central romance, the author thoroughly develops the narrative with plenty of external conflict, including family drama, a looming threat of blackmail from an ex, and a photographer who could upend everything Grace is building with Maddox. The cozy small-town atmosphere and its charming inhabitants add a wonderful layer of warmth that makes Grace’s eventual acceptance into the community so heartwarming.
Bringing this entire emotional journey to a whole new level is the phenomenal dual narration by Brooke Bloomingdale and Aaron Shedlock. Their spectacular performances flawlessly capture the raw desire, quick wit, and deep emotional stakes of both characters. It is a beautiful collision of heat and heart, making it an absolute must-listen for romance fans looking for a story with genuine depth.
