I have put off writing this review because every time I try to put my thoughts into words, I end up completely overwhelmed by emotion. Carry On by A. Winchester is, without a doubt, the most deeply affecting and heartbreaking book I have ever experienced. Brought to life through the phenomenal, emotionally raw narration of Harley Chase and Griffin Rivers, this audiobook didn't just break me apart—it completely finished me.
Book Description
They call me lucky because the world seems to have carved out a path for me when it shouldn’t have.
Lucky I survived war.
Lucky my pain isn’t worse.
Lucky to be alive.
It’s not luck. It’s a curse—one I can’t seem to escape, no matter how hard I try.
Not until Lincoln Cassidy walked into my life. He sees me as I am. As I could be. And for the first time I don’t feel so unlucky.
But sometimes… sometimes love isn’t enough.
**Carry On is a standalone tragedy romance WITHOUT an HEA. It highlights emotionally intense situations meant to make you feel. The content is meant for readers 18+ so please read responsibly

My Thoughts
I have put off writing this review because every time I try to put my thoughts into words, I end up completely overwhelmed by emotion. Carry On by A. Winchester is, without a doubt, the most deeply affecting and heartbreaking book I have ever experienced. Brought to life through the phenomenal, emotionally raw narration of Harley Chase and Griffin Rivers, this audiobook didn't just break me apart—it completely finished me.
What starts out as a marriage of convenience and an insurance fraud arrangement quickly evolves into a profound, tangible, and beautiful love of a lifetime. Nash and Lincoln’s connection feels incredibly real, raw, and deeply human. Nash is a beautifully complex character with jagged edges, a survivor of war and profound loss who carries wounds that never bleed but run deeper than anything physical. Lincoln, though bruised by his own traumatic past, brings an unmatched strength and unconditional love to Nash's life. Watching them fall in love, share moments of pure joy, and fight for each other makes the ultimate trajectory of their story hit infinitely harder.
As devastating as this journey is, it is so much more than a simple tragedy. The story mirrors the harsh reality that so many veterans and individuals face every day, serving as a heartbreaking reflection of the mental health crisis and a broken, business-first healthcare system. It forces you to look at the systemic failures and the unbearable weight people are expected to carry alone. It is a gut-wrenching reminder of those who suffer from cPTSD and chronic illnesses, falling through the cracks of a corrupt system.
Potential readers need to know that this is a standalone tragedy romance without a happy-ever-after. It is an intense, mature story meant to make you feel angry, broken, and lost. It will hurt you and gut you, and it took me a full week to even mention these characters without crying. A. Winchester has a rare gift for writing messy, realistic romances that tackle sensitive, heavy topics with immense bravery and execution.
I never truly understood the concept of a "Roman Empire" book until now. Carry On is a masterpiece that captivates you from start to finish and stays with you during the quiet moments of your everyday life. I have a Nash-shaped hole in my heart, and I will carry his and Lincoln’s story with me forever. While Lincoln's long, hard-earned journey isn't over, I trust the process and will anxiously wait to see where his path leads next.
