Burning Skies by Lex Martin is a breathtaking, high-stakes romance that perfectly captures the "loathe-to-love" tension of two rival families caught in a generational feud. As members of the McAllister and Walker families, Beau and Honey should stay as far away from each other as possible, yet the spark between them has been simmering for years.

Book Description

Crossing a line has never felt this good.

I’m what you’d call a good girl—at least that’s what my family thinks. But I’m tired of living by everyone else’s rules. So when I sneak into a scandalous, masked costume party and spot Beau Walker—my longtime crush and my family’s sworn enemy—I do something bold: I cross the one line that's utterly forbidden.

Hidden by shadows and masks, we lose ourselves in the hottest night of my life. Until I accidentally moan his name, and everything comes crashing to a halt.

Beau says things I can’t forget, and my fantasy of him shatters along with my heart.

But when suspicious fires break out at the high school where I teach, I’m forced to see the one firefighter I wish I could forget.

And when our long-smoldering tension finally ignites, the heat between us lights up the sky—and reveals a danger neither of us saw coming.

Burning Skies is an enemies-to-lovers, forbidden romance that features a scorchingly hot firefighter and the little sister of his long-time nemesis. If you enjoy cowboy families, old vendettas, and small towns brimming with secrets, this one is for you!

My Thoughts

Burning Skies by Lex Martin is a breathtaking, high-stakes romance that perfectly captures the "loathe-to-love" tension of two rival families caught in a generational feud. As members of the McAllister and Walker families, Beau and Honey should stay as far away from each other as possible, yet the spark between them has been simmering for years.

Their history is rooted in a single, scandalous night seven years ago when a masked costume party led to a forbidden encounter that shattered Honey’s heart and solidified her disdain for Beau. Now a high school teacher facing a bizarre ultimatum from her father to marry by age twenty-six, Honey finds herself thrust back into Beau’s orbit when suspicious fires break out at her school.

The chemistry between them is absolutely fiery—the kind of connection that feels like a rubber band snapping after years of being pulled tight. Beau, a scorchingly hot firefighter, and Honey, the spirited "good girl" of his nemesis's family, share a brand of banter that is a total joy to experience. Their relationship is a beautiful mess of longing, passion, and angst, made even more poignant by the Romeo and Juliet themes woven throughout the story.

As they navigate misunderstandings and family vendettas, the layers of their personalities match perfectly, especially in the sweet, unexpected moments—like Beau’s soft spot for cats—that balance out the intensity of their physical connection.

The suspense of the arson investigation adds a perfect layer of mystery that keeps the pages turning without ever overshadowing the emotional core of the romance. It’s an amazing, addictive read that highlights how two people can support each other even when the world—and their own families—is determined to keep them apart.

The narration by Stephen Dexter and Savannah Peachwood is next-level, bringing incredible depth and emotion to the characters. For fans of small-town dramas filled with secrets, cowboy families, and "touch her and die" energy, this story is pure perfection. It leaves you completely obsessed with this world and desperate for the next chapter in the series.
