I was incredibly intrigued to dive into The Hubble by Cindy Kehagiaras, especially with the duet-style multicast narration by Ash Kingsley, Ryan Lee Dunlap, and James Cassidy as "The Face." The performances were exceptionally well done, bringing a great deal of depth to this unique prequel. This story is a fascinating look at how our backgrounds shape us and the secrets we carry, proving that you truly never know the real history behind the person standing in front of you.

Book Description

Kelly, aka Katia, and more aliases is ready to leave her job as the cyber specialist for an international clandestine group of “fixers” and return to her hometown in Orange County, California, and her first love, Brad Tennent. She’d only met him once, eight years ago; her hacking experience allowed her to follow Brad over the years and learn exactly what kind of girls he liked. Blonde, flirty, and ditzy. And that’s exactly who she will become. She needn’t have bothered with the dye job, spray tan, and dumb act. He was smitten at their first meeting with the weird goth girl, her bossy opinions, and her stunning lips and cheekbones. He’d compared every woman to her for eight years. Brad, known as the pretty boy heir to The Tennent Surf Company, lets everyone in his life make decisions for him. He spent his days surfing, dating many women, and partying. But meeting the strange, judgmental girl years before, and her insistence that he could do anything he put his mind to, made him question his entire life.

The Hubble has several open-door love scenes, a high steam heat level, and some light kink. It is the third book in the Tennent Surf series, a prequel to The Perpetual and The Dasher.

My Thoughts

I was incredibly intrigued to dive into The Hubble by Cindy Kehagiaras, especially with the duet-style multicast narration by Ash Kingsley, Ryan Lee Dunlap, and James Cassidy as "The Face." The performances were exceptionally well done, bringing a great deal of depth to this unique prequel. This story is a fascinating look at how our backgrounds shape us and the secrets we carry, proving that you truly never know the real history behind the person standing in front of you.

The plot follows Kelly, also known as Katia among many other aliases, a cyber specialist for an international clandestine group of "fixers." After years of living a high-stakes life, she is finally ready to return to her hometown in Orange County and reconnect with her first love, Brad Tennent. They had only met once eight years prior, but Kelly’s elite hacking skills allowed her to follow his life from afar. Believing he had a specific "type," she goes to great lengths to transform herself with a new look and a ditzy persona, only to realize that Brad had been smitten with the original, bossy, and judgmental "goth girl" he met years ago. He had spent nearly a decade comparing every woman he met to her.

Brad, the "pretty boy" heir to the Tennent Surf Company, has spent much of his life letting others make decisions for him while he focused on surfing and partying. However, that brief encounter with Kelly years ago—and her insistence that he could achieve anything—sparked a change in him that made him question his entire life. Their reunion is a beautiful exploration of two people who have been dreaming of each other for years finally finding their way back together. It highlights how powerful it is to have someone in your corner who truly sees your potential, even when you feel insecure about falling in love.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the high steam level and the open-door love scenes in this story, I found the timeline of the series a bit challenging to navigate. As the third book in the Tennent Surf series and a prequel to The Perpetual and The Dasher, reading them in publication order left me feeling a little all over the place. I definitely think I would have preferred experiencing this world in chronological order to better follow the overarching narrative. That said, the characters are wonderfully developed, and I am very curious to see where the rest of the series leads now that I've had this introduction to Kelly and Brad’s history.
