Coronation by Cleo White is a fantastic, high-spice royal romance that feels like The Prince and Me meets Scandal. Narrated with perfect chemistry by June Deborahae and William MacLeod, the story follows Benedict, the brooding King of Stelland, and Zelda Flowers, a sunshine-infused Hollywood actress sixteen years his junior.
Book Description
Not every "once upon a time" ends in a happily ever after.
My fairytale, for instance, didn't come with a handsome Prince Charming, a night at the ball, or a magical pumpkin carriage.
Instead, I got a bearded, bad-tempered king, a sex party for rich people, and a driver waiting to take me home after the royal asshole was finished with me.
And they lived not so happily ever after. The end.
That should be it, right? Even missing some conventional fairytale elements, it's clear no one is riding off into the sunset in the tale of the grumpy king and the naïve, much younger actress.
Except, a positive pregnancy test just proved that, in this fairytale, the end isn't the end at all. It's the beginning.
The Prince and Me meets Scandal in this royally high-spice, forbidden romance, from bestselling author Cleo White.
About Cleo White
Cleo White's affinity for all things dramatic and hopelessly romantic began the day she was born, which happened to be in the middle of a record-breaking snowstorm on Valentine’s Day. Her love of literature came soon after, and she spent the better part of her childhood with both a book and a notebook full of unfinished stories in hand. Later in life, she found a love of writing spicy books with complicated characters and dysfunctional family drama. Cleo currently lives in Vermont with her husband and two daughters. When not writing, she can be found hiking, gardening, painting, and consuming excessive quantities of caffeine.
My Thoughts
Coronation by Cleo White is a fantastic, high-spice royal romance that feels like The Prince and Me meets Scandal. Narrated with perfect chemistry by June Deborahae and William MacLeod, the story follows Benedict, the brooding King of Stelland, and Zelda Flowers, a sunshine-infused Hollywood actress sixteen years his junior.
Their paths cross at an exclusive, high-society sex party where they share an instant, fiery connection that neither can ignore. What starts as a weekend of anonymity at a secluded royal estate quickly turns heavy and real, leading Benedict to retreat into his cold, kingly shell. However, an accidental pregnancy and a looming public relations crisis force them back together, leading their respective teams to stage a "relationship" that is as much about survival as it is about their undeniable attraction.
I absolutely gobbled this book up and found it nearly impossible to put down. Benedict is a classic grump, forced onto a throne he never wanted after the death of his brother and a disastrous arranged marriage, but Zelda is the breath of fresh air he never believed he could have. The contrast between his staid royal life and her vibrant Hollywood world adds a fun, modern layer to the forbidden romance trope.
The spice is off the charts, but the emotional depth is what truly kept me hooked; watching Benedict’s evolution from a bitter monarch to a man who will damn the rules for the woman he loves is pure perfection. Zelda is a wonderful protagonist—strong, capable, and frustrated with her own love life until she finds a match that actually challenges her.
The angst and longing are palpable, especially as Benedict embarks on a groveling tour to prove he can be the partner she deserves. It was so satisfying to see him work through his trauma and the constraints of the monarchy to make their lives click. This was my first Cleo White read, and between the sizzling chemistry and the heartfelt vibes, it certainly won’t be my last. It’s a royal fairytale that leans into the messiness of real life, wrapping up with an ending that brought out my inner princess-loving girl.
