The narration is an absolute standout, featuring a brilliant full-cast duet including Teddy Hamilton, Savannah Peachwood, and Sebastian York. Their performances bring an incredible depth to the instant attraction and fiery banter that ignites when Poppy and Braden meet on a flight to San Diego. While Braden is used to women falling at his feet, he is shocked to find that Poppy is entirely immune to his usual charms. Their unexpected reunion at a wedding leads to a night of intense passion, but it also kicks off a complicated game of deception and desire.
The tension between these two is palpable and draws you in from the very first page. Braden, nicknamed "The Butcher," initially pursues Poppy with an immature and deceitful plan—even going so far as to create a secondary persona to check all of Poppy’s boxes. However, the true beauty of the story lies in his development. I loved watching him fall for her and realizing that he was finally willing to do the work to win her over. He becomes the ultimate example of "if he wanted to, he would," especially as he leans into the lessons learned from the romance novels they share.
Poppy is a fantastic protagonist; she’s a "firecracker" who stands up for herself and refuses to accept anything less than the respect she deserves. Her strength and snark balance perfectly with Braden's "dirty mouth" and eventual vulnerability. Beyond the central romance, the hilarious group chats between the guys and the girls provide priceless moments of levity.
By the time you reach the ending, the emotional payoff feels deeply earned. It is a steamy, spicy, and heartfelt journey that shows what happens when three people—the man he was, the man she wanted, and the man he becomes—finally merge into one. This book is a must-read that makes saying goodbye to the series both bittersweet and completely satisfying.
