The story follows Bertie, who should be entirely focused on her college graduation and landing her first big-girl job, only to have her carefully laid plans upended by a positive pregnancy test. Feeling entirely unprepared for motherhood and carrying the heavy emotional baggage of a lonely childhood, an unsupportive family, and a past toxic relationship, Bertie struggles with deep-seated insecurities, fear of attachment, and doubts about whether she is worthy of being loved.
Enter Luke Covey: a rookie hockey player who is the absolute epitome of a golden retriever and the greenest of green flags. Cool as a cucumber and entirely unruffled by the unexpected news, Luke becomes completely devoted to Bertie from the moment he finds out.
