In Cage by Tia Louise, the idea that "not every cage is a prison" comes to life through a beautiful story of fate, second chances, and the healing power of love. When Owen Stone, a six-foot-two single dad and NHL player, is traded to the Champions hockey team, his primary focus is providing a stable home for his daughter, Maddie. He certainly isn’t looking for romance, but fate has other plans—starting with a move into a temporary home shared with his teammate Maverick and Maverick’s cousin, Gina Bradford.

Book Description

Sometimes fate sends a sign, and sometimes it sends a bloodhound with a hot hockey player holding its leash, dragging it off you.

Owen Stone is not your usual hockey player. He’s a six-foot-two single dad with dark hair, ocean eyes, and muscles for days. He’s also a last-minute trade trying to find a home for his seven-year-old daughter, his psychic sister, and his adoring bloodhound. Naturally, my hockey-star cousin tells him to move in with us. I’m a sucker for a good dog.

Gina Bradford hits me right in my weakness. She’s tall for a girl, with strawberry-blonde hair, bright green eyes, and a sweet smile. She’s also a champion dog groomer, judge, and owner of a pure-bred show poodle, who is also a notorious towel thief.

When my new teammate invites me to be their roommate until I find a home for my crew, I should’ve said no. I’ve survived the worst, and I’ve achieved my dream of playing in the NHL.
My focus is on winning games and taking care of my daughter, not romance.

Until our dogs start acting like fated mates whose sole purpose is to push us together. And a charity calendar forces us to work together. And a highway accident strands us overnight in a hotel with only one room… and only one bed.

We said it was just once. We’ve both been hurt. But once is never enough.
My daughter loves her, and even my psychic sister predicted the girl of my dreams would be holding a dog.
It takes a little faith and a lot of courage, but what we’ve found is more than a cage. It’s a love that shows up, even when you’re not looking for it.

My Thoughts

In Cage by Tia Louise, the idea that "not every cage is a prison" comes to life through a beautiful story of fate, second chances, and the healing power of love. When Owen Stone, a six-foot-two single dad and NHL player, is traded to the Champions hockey team, his primary focus is providing a stable home for his daughter, Maddie. He certainly isn’t looking for romance, but fate has other plans—starting with a move into a temporary home shared with his teammate Maverick and Maverick’s cousin, Gina Bradford.

Gina is a talented dog groomer and judge who is as guarded as she is caring. Having been burned by past relationships, she isn't exactly looking for a hockey player to upend her life, yet the chemistry between her and Owen is immediate and unmistakable. The universe seems determined to push them together, aided by Owen’s psychic sister and a pair of dogs—his lovable bloodhound and her poodle—who act like fated mates themselves.

From a charity calendar shoot to a stranded night in a hotel with only one bed, the forced proximity makes their "one night of passion" impossible to ignore. What makes this story truly resonate is the emotional depth Tia Louise weaves into the humor and spice. Both characters carry heavy baggage; Owen is a widower still grappling with loss, while Gina’s insecurities run deep.

Watching them navigate these obstacles to find a connection that completes their lives is incredibly moving. The supporting cast, including familiar faces from Louise’s previous works, adds a wonderful layer of warmth and hilarious banter to the narrative. It’s a story about finding a love that shows up even when you aren't looking for it.

The audiobook experience is equally impressive, with Liam DiCosimo and Willa Jaymes delivering a top-notch duet narration. Their performances elevate the heartfelt moments and the "off the charts" attraction, making Owen’s devotion and Gina’s softening heart feel entirely real. Even if you haven't read the first book in the series, Cage is a seamless, swoon-worthy journey that proves fighting for love is always worth the effort.
