Returning to Kroydon Hills always feels like coming home, and Sweet Addiction is the perfect reason to revisit this inviting universe. Bella Matthews has a way of creating stories that I simply devour, and Rome and Dillan’s journey was no exception. After their relationship was teased in previous books, I was beyond excited to finally see them take center stage. Their story was everything I wanted but nothing I expected, taking a deeper, more nuanced turn than I initially imagined.

Book Description

From #1 Amazon and USA Today Bestselling Author Bella Matthews comes an enemies to lovers, forced proximity, sports romance.

Rome Beneventi is a walking, talking bad decision—six feet, five inches of tattoos, temptation, and trouble wrapped in a smirk and dipped in sin. This MMA champion should come with a warning label . . . or at the very least a disclaimer.
I sell books, and he breaks bones.
We are not on the same page.

At least not until he discovers my secret and instead of keeping it, blackmails me into fake dating him.

Now I’m living in his house.
Lying to my family and friends.
Playing nice for the cameras.
And trying not to melt every time he calls me “baby” like it’s more than a show.

I told myself I’d never fall for him.
That I was too smart to love the devil in designer clothes.
But the thing about enemies?
Sometimes they’re the only ones who see you clearly.

And faking it with Rome Beneventi?
Yeah . . . it stopped feeling fake a long time ago.

My Thoughts

Returning to Kroydon Hills always feels like coming home, and Sweet Addiction is the perfect reason to revisit this inviting universe. Bella Matthews has a way of creating stories that I simply devour, and Rome and Dillan’s journey was no exception. After their relationship was teased in previous books, I was beyond excited to finally see them take center stage. Their story was everything I wanted but nothing I expected, taking a deeper, more nuanced turn than I initially imagined.

On the surface, Rome and Dillan are all sharp-tongued banter and playful friction, but they both operate at a surface level with everyone else in their lives. They are the only ones who truly recognize the secrets and hidden layers the other is carrying. What starts as a masked attraction leads to a one-night stand that Rome eventually fumbles, leading to a two-year gap before he blackmails Dillan into a fake-dating arrangement. The plot is a masterclass in tropes, blending sports romance, enemies-to-lovers, and forced proximity with delightful micro-tropes like "only one bed," motorcycle rides, and gray sweatpants.

Rome Beneventi is a walking bad decision—an MMA champion wrapped in tattoos and "Big Deity Energy"—who manages to be fiercely protective without being controlling. Dillan is his perfect match, full of fire and sass. Their fighting is truly their love language, and while there were moments where their decisions felt a bit frustrating, the character development is solid enough to smooth over those bumps. Underneath the steam and the giggle-worthy banter, Matthews weaves in deeper themes of self-love and overcoming fear, giving the story a sense of substance.

The narration by Angelina Rocca and Stephen Dexter brings an incredible amount of emotion to the audiobook, making the chemistry between Rome and Dillan feel even more electric. While I would have loved a slightly more fleshed-out epilogue simply because I wasn't ready to say goodbye, the trip back to Kroydon Hills was entirely satisfying. Whether you are a longtime fan of the Beneventi family or a newcomer using the character map to dive in for the first time, this story solidifies Bella Matthews as a must-read author for anyone who loves a spicy, heartfelt romance.
