As a longtime fan of Kristen Proby, I was thrilled when she announced her "after dark" pen name, Natalie Kane. I jumped into Sinful King—the first installment of the Kings of Vegas series—with high expectations, and it didn't just meet them; it completely exceeded them. This is a dark mafia, age-gap romance that demands a look at the content warnings, but for fans of the genre, it is an absolute must-read that I devoured without leaving a single crumb.

Book Description

Eloise

I ran away from one organized crime household and found myself tripping right into another one. My father, the head of the Italian Mafia, is a bad man. He wants to marry me off to some creep I don’t know, but rather than succumb to that nightmare, I fled to Vegas, hoping to find a job and blend in. In the first week, I’ve been stolen from and beat up, and I have no money to my name, but I find a job as a bartender at RAPTURE, an upscale—okay, super bougie—adult club just off the Strip. I can’t believe my luck. I love this job, and I’m intrigued by the mysterious tattooed man with ice-blue eyes who always seems to be pinned to me. Things are looking up.

Until my father’s men find me.

Rome

I’m a ruthless, hard, dangerous man who takes care of his men and employees, and I run the city of Vegas with my brothers. That’s all I need. Until a gorgeous, raven-haired beauty comes walking into my club and sets my soul on fire.

I’m obsessed with her. Consumed by her. I need her in a way that I’ve never needed anyone or anything before, aside from the power and control that I’ve worked so hard for. She doesn’t know it, but I own the club that employs her, and I follow her back to the seedy motel she’s living in after her shift to make sure she’s safe. She’s mine.

Suddenly, someone is out to hurt my Firefly, and that means that they’ll meet a painful, bloody end. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe. To keep her with me.

Forever.

My Thoughts

As a longtime fan of Kristen Proby, I was thrilled when she announced her "after dark" pen name, Natalie Kane. I jumped into Sinful King—the first installment of the Kings of Vegas series—with high expectations, and it didn't just meet them; it completely exceeded them. This is a dark mafia, age-gap romance that demands a look at the content warnings, but for fans of the genre, it is an absolute must-read that I devoured without leaving a single crumb.

The story follows Eloise "Lulu" as she flees the abusive clutches of her father, the head of the Italian Mafia, to escape an arranged marriage. She lands in Vegas desperate to blend in, eventually finding a job at Rapture, an upscale club owned by the ruthless and powerful Roman Alexander. Rome is a dangerous man who runs the city alongside his brothers, but the moment he sees Lulu, he is utterly consumed. He claims her on the spot, his obsession fueled by a protective streak that only intensifies when he realizes exactly who she is running from.

There is something incredibly captivating about a "scary" morally gray man who is only soft for his girl. Watching Rome move Lulu into his penthouse to keep her safe and provide the emotional healing she so desperately needs was beautiful. He makes her feel safe and loved for the first time in her life, and his "firefly" quickly becomes his entire world. The supporting characters add even more depth to this gritty, high-stakes environment, making the world of Rapture and vagas feel vivid and immersive.

The audiobook experience is a total standout, featuring phenomenal duet narration by Avery Caris and Teddy Hamilton. Avery perfectly captures Lulu’s transition from a fearful runaway to a feisty, determined woman; you can truly feel her passion and resilience through the performance. Teddy Hamilton is brilliant as the alpha, possessive Rome, using a sexy, sultry tone that is simply divine. Together, they brought this story to life with such skill that I’m already counting down the days until the next book in the series. I cannot recommend this fabulous, steamy story enough!
