The Love Hater By: Elle Nicoll(Audio Review)

After waiting so long for Sullivan’s story, I can safely say that Elle Nicoll delivered "Daddy Sullivan" beautifully in The Love Hater. This book is a complete page-turner that I devoured in less than 24 hours. While we have seen Sullivan and his daughter, Molly, throughout the series, getting their full story was a deeply moving experience. Sullivan is New York’s coldest billionaire CEO—grumpy, guarded, and a self-proclaimed "love-hater" haunted by a family tragedy—but watching his sharp edges soften was everything I hoped it would be.

Book Description

He’s New York’s coldest billionaire CEO.

And I just accidentally became his daughter’s nanny.

To be clear, I didn’t mean to become anyone’s nanny.

There was a coffee shop.

Some bunny-shaped foam art.

And a serious case of mistaken identity.

Now I’m working for Sullivan Beaufort.

Grumpy. Guarded. Sinfully handsome.

And CEO of Beaufort Diamonds.

He’s a self-proclaimed Love-Hater, haunted by a family tragedy that left scars too deep for anyone to reach.

He doesn’t want a nanny.
He definitely doesn’t want me.

But where he is sharp edges, brooding silences, and late-night piano melodies soaked in grief… his two-year-old daughter is belly giggles, mischief, and sticky fingers that have wrapped themselves around my heart.

One minute we’re baking cookies.
The next, I catch Sullivan watching me like I’m both his biggest regret…

and his greatest temptation.

This job was never meant to be forever.

It was stop-gap. A paycheck I desperately needed.

But now?

I don’t know if I can walk away from the man who swears he’ll never fall in love…

Because the music he plays sounds like his soul is begging him to be wrong.

And if I listen closely enough, maybe I’ll finally understand what he’s been afraid of all along.

I know one thing for certain…

When this song comes to an end, none of us will ever be the same.

About Elle Nicoll

Elle Nicoll is a British author, and ex long-haul flight attendant, who spent years travelling the world and dreaming up stories whilst trying to stay awake on night flights.

She writes very steamy, emotional, swoony, contemporary romance novels, all based around love.

Elle loves putting her characters through challenges that make them grow from the beginning of the story, until their HEA. They have to fight hard for it... but when they get there, it's so worth it.

All of Elle's characters are different. Whether they are a brooding CEO, the best friend who always held the heroine in his heart, a Hollywood heartthrob, or a silver fox with gentlemanly manners and a deliciously filthy tongue. They are all unique and infuriating in their own way.

Because no one is perfect.

When Elle isn't writing she is either on her spinning bike (the source of where many ideas come to her), or getting excited about adding to her crystal collection (Yes, she loves them. Those and vegan candles).

It means the world to Elle that you're reading her stories, and she loves to hear from readers.

My Thoughts

After waiting so long for Sullivan’s story, I can safely say that Elle Nicoll delivered "Daddy Sullivan" beautifully in The Love Hater. This book is a complete page-turner that I devoured in less than 24 hours. While we have seen Sullivan and his daughter, Molly, throughout the series, getting their full story was a deeply moving experience. Sullivan is New York’s coldest billionaire CEO—grumpy, guarded, and a self-proclaimed "love-hater" haunted by a family tragedy—but watching his sharp edges soften was everything I hoped it would be.

Tate is a phenomenal lead and the perfect foil to Sullivan’s brooding nature. A barista and songwriter who accidentally becomes Molly’s nanny through a case of mistaken identity, she proves that true strength doesn't have to be loud. She is the definition of a dreamer: bubbly, patient, and incredibly caring, yet she refuses to take Sullivan’s grumpiness lying down. I adored how she wasn't intimidated by him and made him truly work for her affection. One of the most powerful moments in the book is seeing Tate remain his rock during a grief-stricken panic attack; even after he tried to push her away, she stayed to ground him while he broke apart in her arms.

Sullivan’s journey is equally compelling. He is a jaded man who would move heaven and earth for the daughter who was dropped on his doorstep, and watching him fall for the accidental nanny a little more with every encounter was pure magic. His grief is palpable—often expressed through late-night piano melodies—and it makes his eventual healing and path to a HEA feel so deserved. I also loved how the timeline runs concurrent with The Rule Breaker, offering fresh perspectives on scenes from book three, and the secondary romance between Ashley and Huck was a wonderful bonus.

The audiobook experience elevated the story even further, with Madison Mitts and Theodore Zephyr providing a stellar performance. Their narration brought a level of depth and raw emotion to the characters that made me feel every high and low. With its strong family bonds and beautifully revealed secrets, The Love Hater is a standout installment in the Beaufort world. It’s a story about realizing that even when you swear you'll never fall in love, your soul might just be begging you to be wrong.
