Book Description
My best friend's little sister has been getting under my skin for decades. She's my lifelong nemesis and now-apparently-my wife.
When Willa Jameson stumbled into my bar drunk, heartbroken, and desperate to save her family farm, I offered to marry her. For "convenience."Which is hilarious, because nothing about my attraction to this hurricane with hips has ever been convenient.
Now we're sharing a roof, a bed, and a potential felony thanks to our fake marriage.
It's supposed to be a favor between not-quite-friends-but-not-quite-enemies. Then our late-night arguments turn into practice make out sessions.
But according to her, that changes absolutely nothing between us.
No matter how many lines we draw, we keep crossing them-in the kitchen, on the porch, in the tiny bed that's become both heaven and hell.
And the woman who swears she hates me starts looking at me like I might be exactly what she needs.
She calls me her temporary husband. I call her my daily torture, because every day we play house, it feels less like pretending and more like home.
When this ends, I don't know how I'm going to forget what it felt like to call her mine. So either I walk away with her, or I don't walk away at all.
About Brighton Walsh
Award-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love—writing. She likes her books how she likes her tea—steamy and satisfying—and adores strong-willed heroines and the protective heroes who fall head over heels for them. Brighton lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it's mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible. My Thoughts
The Mr. & Mrs. Mistake by Brighton Walsh is a standout addition to the Steele Brothers of Starlight Cove series, brought to life by the exceptional narration of JF Harding and Savannah Peachwood. This third installment delivers a perfect blend of the "brother’s best friend" and "marriage of convenience" tropes, featuring the high-tension, black cat/golden retriever dynamic between Lincoln and Willa. The chemistry between them is electric, fueled by decades of being each other's nemesis and a brand of banter that is both hilarious and top-tier.
The story follows Willa Jameson, a feisty and hyper-independent woman who is desperate to save her family farm. When she enters a fake marriage with Lincoln, her twin brother's best friend, the lines between pretending and reality begin to blur almost immediately. As they navigate the forced proximity of sharing a roof and a bed, their late-night arguments transform into something much more explosive. Lincoln, portrayed brilliantly as a charming "jackass" by JF Harding, evolves into a man who is willing to do anything for the woman he once called his daily torture.
One of the most moving aspects of this book is the representation of chronic pain. Willa’s struggle is handled with incredible care, highlighting the reality of many women who push through physical suffering in silence. Her journey toward accepting help and leaning on others adds a profound layer of emotional depth and strength to her character, making her journey feel deeply relatable. Savannah Peachwood delivers a powerhouse performance here, capturing Willa’s vulnerability and resilience with perfection.
Beyond the steamy encounters and the "spiced-up" tension, the heart of the story lies in the themes of trust, family, and finding where you truly belong. It is a joy to catch up with the rest of the Steele family, and the realistic portrayal of their connection makes the romance feel grounded despite the chaotic circumstances of their marriage. Whether they are trading insults or crossing lines in the kitchen, Lincoln and Willa’s story is a swoon-worthy, 10/10 experience that balances humor and heat with genuine heart.
