Willow Sanders’ Rental Clause is a delightful addition to the Rental Rendezvous series, offering a perfect mix of humor, holiday cheer, and steam. Narrated brilliantly by Shiloh James and Walker Williams, this audiobook brings a dual-perspective depth to a classic forced-proximity trope that is as funny as it is heartwarming.
Book Description
Felicity
The last place I wanted to be for Christmas was home. I knew when my twin sister, Sera, called me and begged me to come home that it could only mean one thing. That her perfect boyfriend she met because of me turned out to be the one.
That's why she wanted everyone home spending Christmas with the family. So Bryce could finally meet me, the twin, in person. Except I was still an open wound, reeling from my own Mr. The One deciding he wanted to tap out so he could tap our neighbor in 4E. With the whole family home, there was no way in hell I was spending the week on the couch. With Sera and Mr. The One sleeping in our former shared bedroom, the lifeline to my sanity was an AirBnB--the last one available in an entire twenty-mile radius.
Klaus
This year could slip on a patch of ice and land on a pile of legos. First, some chump stole my identity, then the pipes in my condo burst. Given it was the week of Christmas, there was no room at any inn, stable, or motel. Not that I could even stay if there was a vacancy since I had no credit to my name until all this identity thief b.s. sorted itself out. I would rather sleep in the snow than share my brother's house with his four kids--so I gladly jump at his wife's suggestion I stay at our rental property. It was the perfect solution except for one minor problem--a curvy little firecracker with a rental confirmation dangling from her holiday-themed manicured hand.
When a blizzard disrupts their holiday plans, the pair will soon learn they're getting much more than they bargained for!
About Willow Sanders
Willow has always had a penchant for weaving tales. Whether it was horror stories for her bunkmates during sleep away camp, or full blown novels, the written word is always something that Willow has been drawn to.
A Chicago girl born and raised, you will find that most of her stories are either based in, or somehow tie back to the city she knows and loves. Her loyalties lie on the North-Side, as she proclaims she is a Cubs fan, and a fan of anyone playing against the White Sox. She can also be found regularly rooting for the Illini, when she isn’t being forced by her husband to betray her loyalty to the Blue and Orange in favor of a weekend cheering on the Spartans.
A marketer by day, and a writer by night, she can be found feeding her coffee addiction at the Green Mermaid (otherwise known as Starbucks), spending way too much time on TikTok, or trying to convince others she's a long lost Gilmore Girl.
My Thoughts
Willow Sanders’ Rental Clause is a delightful addition to the Rental Rendezvous series, offering a perfect mix of humor, holiday cheer, and steam. Narrated brilliantly by Shiloh James and Walker Williams, this audiobook brings a dual-perspective depth to a classic forced-proximity trope that is as funny as it is heartwarming.
The story follows Felicity, a New York associate producer returning to Chicago for the holidays. Fresh off a breakup—where her ex left her for their neighbor—she isn't exactly in the mood to witness her twin sister’s perfect relationship. To avoid feeling like a third wheel in her family home, she books a rental for the week to preserve her sanity. However, her plans for solitude are interrupted when she walks in on Klaus, the owner’s forty-five-year-old brother, relaxing in the bathtub. Klaus is having a week from hell involving identity theft and burst pipes, leading him to crash at the property he thought was vacant.
When a blizzard hits, the two are snowed in, turning a disastrous meet-cute into a steamy, believable romance. Despite leaning into the "instalove" trope, the connection feels earned and sweet rather than rushed. The narrative balances the fun banter with Felicity’s relatable vulnerability regarding her sister’s happiness and her own uncertain future.
Sanders writes with a great blend of heart and humor, and the chemistry between the "curvy firecracker" Felicity and the steady, older Klaus is electric. The audio performance elevates the material, with both narrators capturing the characters' distinct personalities perfectly. It is a quick, enjoyable listen that stands on its own while making a strong case for reading the rest of the series.
