The animal sanctuary itself acts as a vibrant third character, with the animals—including the infamously boob-fetish raccoon—playing a significant role in developing Luna's character and adding meaningful, sometimes comical, depth. Luna's backstory is clearly woven into her present, and her best friend, Maren, provides fantastic comic relief.

The dual points of view are highly effective, contributing to the book's gripping pace and relentless anticipation. The narrative provides a fantastic mix of predictable moments that ground the story and shocking revelations that keep the reader hooked. The spice in this dark romance is intense and purposeful; while readers should certainly check the trigger warnings, every intimate encounter is part of a slow-burn build-up, giving the main characters time to develop their profound connection.

This book is incredibly engaging and has significant emotional depth, eliciting laughter, tears, and swoons as the characters navigate their moral struggles. The chemistry between Luna and Damien is palpable, the banter is sharp, and the tension is deliciously dark, giving off intense "Dexter" vibes—if he were an Armani-clad vigilante obsessed with one woman.

The only slight critique is the desire for more depth regarding Damien’s backstory—the exact details of how he became a killer remain somewhat elusive, though this may be a deliberate choice by the author. Despite this, the story is utterly addictive, hooking you from the first page and making you deeply invested in both main characters. This book is a highly recommended read for fans of dark romance, but be prepared!
