Wow, just wow. I went into Cassie Alexander’s Take Her completely blind, and I’m so glad I did. This audiobook, narrated by Matthew Holland and Bunny Warren, is a thrilling ride that defies typical mafia romance expectations.
Book Description
Power, Love, Money: Pick One
I’m her father’s best friend. She’s twenty years younger than me. He’ll kill me if I touch her—but I’ll die if I don’t.
The last time I saw Lia Ferreo I was helping her with a skinned knee—and now she wants to run her father’s company. She has no idea the dark lengths her father and I went through to build the mafia-financed hotel empire we currently run, or where any of the bodies are buried, but I know better.
So much better.
Lia’s gentle, I’m cruel.
She’s innocent, I’m a murderer.
She deserves to be free—all I want to do is control her.
And I don’t think I can hold back my beast around her much longer....
Take Her: A Dark Wall Street Mafia Age Gap Romance is like if the movie Secretary met the TV show Succession, with a Beauty and the Beast themed twist. It is the first book in Cassie Alexander's The Moth and the Monster series, and marks her stunning contemporary debut.

My Thoughts
Wow, just wow. I went into Cassie Alexander’s Take Her completely blind, and I’m so glad I did. This audiobook, narrated by Matthew Holland and Bunny Warren, is a thrilling ride that defies typical mafia romance expectations.
The premise alone sets the stage for delicious tension: "I’m her father’s best friend. She’s twenty years younger than me. He’ll kill me if I touch her—but I’ll die if I don’t." Enter Lia Ferreo, who wants to run her father's company, completely unaware of the dark, violent history her father and his partner, Rhaim, navigated to build their empire. Rhaim knows it all – the buried bodies, the brutal lengths – and he sees Lia's innocence as a stark contrast to his own cruel, murderous past. The internal conflict he faces, wanting to control her while knowing she deserves freedom, creates an intoxicating dynamic.
Lia and Rhaim are a pair I genuinely didn't see coming. The story kicks off with an undeniable heat, quickly evolving into a slow burn that had me absolutely thirsty for more. I found myself desperate for their backstories, craving to understand the depths of their characters and the complexities of their world. This isn't your average mafia tale; it's a nuanced exploration of power, forbidden love, and the choices one makes when caught between desire and loyalty.
Matthew Holland and Bunny Warren delivered stellar narration. It was my first time listening to both of them, and they did an excellent job of drawing me into the narrative, keeping me locked in and eager to uncover every secret. Their performances truly enhanced the slow-burn intensity and the complicated emotions at play. By the end, I was more than just interested; I was fully invested and craving the next installment. If you’re looking for a mafia romance that breaks the mold and keeps you on the edge of your seat, give Take Her a listen!
