This is the third book in this fabulous series by Jude Deveraux.

Book Description

With her father murdered, her home burned, lovely Alyx Blackelt fled to the woods and found sanctuary in the camp of Raine Montgomery, a nobleman outlawed by the king’s edict. There she hid her beauty in the guise of a boy, and her sorrow in her work as Montgomery’s squire.

But how long could such loveliness as hers be hidden? How long could such a gallant man’s desires be blind? And how soon—even as a blood feud raged between the Montgomery family and the Chatworth, as angry swords clattered in the name of family honor—one woman’s love would make all the difference...one woman’s love would inflame a hero’s passion, touch a kings pity, and raise a song of praise in every English heart.

My Thoughts

This was the third book in this series by Jude Deveraux. This book focused on Raine the third Montgomery brother.

Raine is known as the brother who wants to help those less fortunate. FI he sees injustice he wants to fix. So when Alyx ends up in the camp of outlaws that Raine is working hard to protect and help he is only too happy to take Alyx in and watch over this tiny person. What Raine doesn't know is Alyx is a girl.

Alyx has lived a sheltered life. She has never been normal or done what normal girls do. Praised for her voice and nothing more Alyx is forced to see things differently when she finds herself on the run in in Raine's camp of outlaws.

As Alyx learns how to be among people who do not praise her for her voice she also learns how to love and what heartache is as she and Raine learn that honor and love can come in many forms.

I absolutely love the banter between these two characters. Even though Alyx is small she has no problem standing up to Raine. I love that they fight as hard as they love. I was absolutely captivated by them once again it was like going home reading this book again years later.
