Sweet Oblivion by Bella Matthews is an absolute triumph, delivering the kind of high-stakes drama and swoon-worthy romance that leaves you completely invested from the very first page. As the long-awaited story of Ryker Beneventi, it lived up to every expectation and then some. Narrated by the talented duo of Aiden Snow and Angelina Rocco, the audiobook experience is nothing short of brilliant; Angelina brings Delaney to life with such depth and emotion, while Aiden is, as always, the perfect voice for a hero like Ryker.

Book Description

From #1 Amazon and USA Today Bestselling Author Bella Matthews comes a marriage of convenience, billionaire, sports romance.

I never wanted to get married.
Until the night my life went up in flames, and Ryker Beneventi walked into the fire to save me.

The Philadelphia Kings’ scorching hot defensive end has a tendency of doing that . . .
Protecting me is instinct.
Marrying me is strategy.
Calling me “his wife” . . . That’s for fun.

One carefully crafted press release later, and I’m standing beside the most photographed man in football, wearing a diamond I didn’t choose, and bearing a last name revered in this town.

It’s supposed to be temporary.
A clean solution to a messy problem.
But nothing about our marriage is as it seems.

Because somewhere between the locked doors and late nights, the lines between love and legacy blur. Until the only thing left more terrifying than the night that forced us together . . .
Is how scared I am to walk away.

My Thoughts

Sweet Oblivion by Bella Matthews is an absolute triumph, delivering the kind of high-stakes drama and swoon-worthy romance that leaves you completely invested from the very first page. As the long-awaited story of Ryker Beneventi, it lived up to every expectation and then some. Narrated by the talented duo of Aiden Snow and Angelina Rocca, the audiobook experience is nothing short of brilliant; Angelina brings Delaney to life with such depth and emotion, while Aiden is, as always, the perfect voice for a hero like Ryker.

The story follows a marriage of convenience that is both messy and beautiful. When tragedy strikes and Delaney’s life goes up in flames, Ryker—the Philadelphia Kings’ scorching hot defensive end—steps in not just to save her, but to anchor her. Their transition from a strategic, "temporary" arrangement to something real is a masterclass in romance tropes. Watching their guarded hearts find safety in one another is electric, and the way they show up for each other is everything. It is a heavier, darker journey than some of the other books in this world, but that only makes the beauty of their connection shine brighter.

Ryker is impossibly swoony. His protective nature is intense and incredibly hot, and I loved that he refuses to be defined by his disability. Watching him communicate with Delaney using ASL is heart-melting, and his devotion to her—especially the way he shows his love through acts of care—is enough to make anyone fall head over heels. Delaney is the perfect counterpart; though she keeps her walls high and carries her burdens alone, she is brave, kind, and possesses a sharp, sarcastic edge that I adored. Seeing her fight to take back her life while finding strength in Ryker was profoundly moving, and yes, the fact that she has a pet pig is just the cherry on top.

What makes this book stand out is how it handles conflict. The drama is high-stakes and keeps you glued to the page, but it stems from outside the relationship rather than relying on unnecessary miscommunication or a frustrating third-act breakup. You genuinely root for them to overcome the odds, and their chemistry is off the charts. Beyond the spice and the swoon, the story offers beautiful lessons about perseverance, healing, and the power of choosing each other every single day.

Rounding out the experience is the incredible cast of secondary characters. The chaotic, loving energy of the Kingston, Beneventi, and Sinclair families makes you wish you could move to Kroydon Hills just to be part of their circle. Sweet Oblivion is absolute trope heaven, blending a marriage of convenience and billionaire sports romance into an easy five-star read. It is emotional, deeply satisfying, and features an "obsessed hero" dynamic that will leave you with a massive smile long after the story ends. If you’re looking for your next obsession, add this to your TBR immediately.
