The story follows a marriage of convenience that is both messy and beautiful. When tragedy strikes and Delaney’s life goes up in flames, Ryker—the Philadelphia Kings’ scorching hot defensive end—steps in not just to save her, but to anchor her. Their transition from a strategic, "temporary" arrangement to something real is a masterclass in romance tropes. Watching their guarded hearts find safety in one another is electric, and the way they show up for each other is everything. It is a heavier, darker journey than some of the other books in this world, but that only makes the beauty of their connection shine brighter.
Ryker is impossibly swoony. His protective nature is intense and incredibly hot, and I loved that he refuses to be defined by his disability. Seeing her fight to take back her life while finding strength in Ryker was profoundly moving, and yes, the fact that she has a pet pig is just the cherry on top.

The drama is high-stakes and keeps you glued to the page, but it stems from outside the relationship rather than relying on unnecessary miscommunication or a frustrating third-act breakup. You genuinely root for them to overcome the odds, and their chemistry is off the charts. Rounding out the experience is the incredible cast of secondary characters.
