Book Description
INSTANT USA TODAY BESTSELLER!
When two witches with a tangled history are forced to team up, it spells disaster in this steamy rom-com from USA Today bestselling author Avery Flynn.
It’s the curse of every family’s heir to be the responsible one. My family being the most powerful family in all of Witchingdom doesn’t eliminate that fact, it only makes it worse—and that’s why I, Leona Amber Sherwood, never do the unexpected. Except for that one time I did.
Believe me, I have rued the day that I got married in a midnight ceremony under a full moon to Erik Svensen, the heir to my family’s deepest, bitterest enemies, and now, he won’t agree to a divorce unless we return an ancient spell book to his family’s secured facility.
But on our road trip to return the book, I learn more about Erik as we encounter trolls, nymphs, satyrs, and more. The longer we work together, the more I’m convinced that he might not be the evil trickster I assumed he was. Any more time together will leave me even more enchanted with my husband and that’s the last thing I want. And if I keep telling myself that, maybe I'll start to believe it.
About Avery Flynn
Avery Flynn is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling romance author. She has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.
She was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

My Thoughts
If you are looking for an enjoyable, spicy, and witchy road trip read for the spooky season, look no further than Head Witch in Charge by Avery Flynn. This fun, steamy rom-com is set in a version of our world that is just a bit better, featuring a complex and entertaining society filled with fascinating magical species. While it is the second installment in the series, it is easy to dive into this story without feeling confused, and I absolutely love the world Flynn has created.
The story follows Leona Amber Sherwood, the heir to the most powerful family in all of Witchingdom. Because she is responsible for maintaining her family’s reputation and carrying on their magic, Leona is accustomed to always doing the right thing. However, after finally throwing caution to the wind during a trip to Vegas, she ends up married to a stranger in a midnight ceremony under a full moon.
That stranger turns out to be Erik Svensen, the heir to her family’s deepest, bitterest enemies. While the Sherwood family is known for being responsible, the Svensens have a reputation for doing whatever it takes to get ahead. To make matters worse, their magical handfasting is meant to be temporary, but due to special circumstances, it has become binding. A year later, with time running out before the union becomes permanent, Leona is desperate for a divorce—but Erik refuses to agree to it unless they return an ancient spell book to his family’s secured facility.
This sets the stage for a forced-proximity, cross-country road trip that is filled with hilariousness, chemistry, and potentially "only one bed" shenanigans. As they trek across the country encountering trolls, nymphs, and satyrs, Leona begins to realize that Erik might not be the evil trickster she assumed he was. Although Erik originally seems to be using her for his own benefit, his motivations shift as they spend more time together.
I loved the humor and the intense chemistry between these two; it is a quintessential enemies-to-lovers story with some serious heat, where Erik is the sunshine to Leona’s grumpy. He loves to get on her nerves in the best way possible, and Leona’s inner turmoil is fantastic as she tries to convince herself that she doesn’t want to be enchanted by her husband, even as she keeps caving to her desires. The storyline is great, the romance is steamy, and the magic is unforgettable. Plus, the narration by Aaron Shedlock and Kelsey Navarro Foster was brilliantly done. I highly recommend this one; whether you go traditional or audio, this book is a must-read!
