Book Description

A tattooed, touch-averse alpha becomes the sunshine to a grieving woman’s darkness—but the secret connecting him to her family’s brutal murder could destroy the love that’s healing them both. From USA Today bestselling author Michelle Heard.

Kelcie

After losing my entire family in a brutal attack, I’m drowning in grief. The only bright spot? My mysterious new neighbor, Levi—a tattooed bestselling author who somehow understands my pain.

He’s grumpy, he’s damaged, and he hates being touched. Except by me.

Levi

I moved next door to Kelcie for one reason: to make sure she’s okay after the tragedy that took her family. A tragedy I know more about than I should.

She’s the only person whose touch doesn’t make my skin crawl. The only one who makes me want to be whole again.

But I’m hiding a devastating secret—one that connects me to the worst night of her life. And when she discovers the truth, it could destroy the fragile love we’ve built from our broken pieces.

My Thoughts

Every Single Broken Piece by Michelle Heard, narrated by Summer Morton and Lee Samuels, is an emotional rollercoaster that stands out as a unique departure from the author's usual style. Right from the start, the story lulls you into a sense of calm before spiraling into a deeply moving narrative that kept me hooked until the final page.

At the heart of the story are Kelcie and Levi, two incredibly well-developed and likable characters. Kelcie is naturally warm and giving, but the trauma of losing her entire family in a brutal attack has left her feeling withdrawn, lonely, and numb. Her new neighbor, Levi, mirrors her experience in many ways; he is a mysterious, tattooed bestselling author who is quiet, reserved, and deeply uncomfortable with physical contact. Watching their connection unfold is captivating, especially as Levi tries to maintain a distance that only intensifies the undeniable tension between them.

What makes their dynamic so compelling is how perfectly they complement one another. Levi is incredibly attentive and caring, and seeing his guarded nature soften—particularly in how he welcomes Kelcie into his life and facilitates her sweet bond with his dog, Lick—was heart-wrenching and beautiful. It is easy to believe in their relationship because their connection feels earned, grounded in natural emotions and insecurities rather than unnecessary drama.

While the plot carries a heavy emotional weight, particularly regarding the secret Levi hides about his connection to the tragedy that destroyed Kelcie’s family, it is handled with surprising maturity and realism. Levi serves as the unexpected light in Kelcie’s darkness, and their journey toward healing is both poignant and powerful. With exceptional narration bringing their voices to life, this story is a testament to how two broken people can find wholeness in each other. This was my first experience with Michelle Heard’s writing, and after being completely sucked in by this beautifully written story, it certainly won’t be my last.
