Book Description
I should’ve worn underwear that day.
I’d have far less hate mail in my inbox. I’d also still have a job.
But I didn’t wear underwear. And I had a wardrobe malfunction on a livestream.
So now I’m the proud owner of the internet’s most famous… you know.
The good news? I’ve been invited to hide from my sudden infamy at a closed winery with other women who’ve suffered their own five minutes of shame.
The bad news? The winery has a live-in handyman.
A competent, compassionate, patient, sexy, single dad handyman.
Whom I met when I punched him in the face.
Accidentally, of course. But I still get why he’s happy keeping his distance from me.
But when we find out the winery that’s saving my life is in danger of foreclosure, he and I become accidental partners.
No big deal, working with a guy that I’m falling harder for each day.
I’m already the internet’s favorite punching bag. Why not add an unrequited crush to my life?
But what if it’s not unrequited after all?
From USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestselling Author Pippa Grant comes a funny, heartwarming, swoony romance perfect for readers who love protective book boyfriends, found sisterhoods, slow burns, epically awkward meet-cutes, and love conquering all.
Content note: This book contains toxic family and references to bullying, suicide, abuse, and the off-page cancer death of the hero’s first wife several years before the story begins.
About Pippa Grant
Pippa Grant wanted to write books, so she did.
Before she became a USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling romantic comedy author, she was a young military spouse who got into writing as self-therapy. That happened around the time she discovered reading romance novels, and the two eventually merged into a career. Today, she has more than 30 knee-slapping Pippa Grant titles and nine published under the name Jamie Farrell.
When she’s not writing romantic comedies, she’s fumbling through being a mom, wife, and mountain woman, and sometimes tries to find hobbies. Her crowning achievement? Having impeccable timing for telling stories that will make people snort beverages out of their noses. Consider yourself warned.
My Thoughts
You’ve Got Hate Mail by Pippa Grant is a wild, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy that packs a surprising emotional punch, serving as the perfect first installment in the Accidentally Infamous series. Hooking readers from the very first page, this story delivers a fantastic, slow-burn romance that is easy to binge in a single sitting. Pippa Grant masterfully crafts a world filled with heart, heat, protective book boyfriends, and an empowering found sisterhood that readers will instantly fall in love with.
The story follows Cricket, who finds herself as the internet's most famous viral sensation after an incredibly public wardrobe malfunction on a livestream cost her both her reputation and her job. Seeking refuge from the onslaught of inbox hate mail, she is invited to hide out at a closed winery that has long served as a haven for women recovering from their own five minutes of public shame.
The peace is hilariously disrupted by the property's live-in handyman, Heath. He is a competent, compassionate, sexy single dad who is also a bit grumpy and growly. Their epically awkward meet-cute sets a wild tone for the book when Cricket accidentally punches him in the face while in the shower.
Despite a bumpy, hilarious start that eventually lands Cricket living in his basement apartment, the dynamic between them shifts when they discover the winery saving her life is in danger of foreclosure. Becoming accidental partners to save the estate, their forced proximity turns a seemingly unrequited crush into blistering chemistry.
Underneath the playfulness and spice, the book handles deeper emotional layers with care, touching on themes of toxic family, healing from public bullying, and Heath’s grief over the off-page loss of his first wife years prior. Watching Cricket and Heath find their way to each other alongside his adorable daughter, Lavender, makes for a beautifully heartwarming journey toward family and healing.
The story is further elevated by a brilliant cast of eccentric supporting characters and animals, including Aunt Pip, Ginny, Mabel, Fluffy, and the Cluckinator. The girl-gang energy and unwavering support among the women at the winery provide a wonderful backdrop of found family that grounds the entire plot.
The audio production takes this incredible story to the next level with a spectacular, beyond-extraordinary duet multicast narration. Kristyna Zaharek is magnificent as the resilient yet vulnerable Cricket, beautifully conveying her deep hurt, uncertainty, and ultimate path back to genuine happiness. Gregory Salinas is superb as the gruff, protective Heath, delivering a deep, sexy tone that is completely swoon-worthy. The two share incredible comedic chemistry, particularly in their standout, hilarious drunk-acting scenes.
Supported by spectacular performances from Stella Hunter as the sweet, caretaking Mabel and Samantha Brentmoor as the lovable, problem-solving Ginny, this fabulous cast breathes vibrant life into every scene. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a funny, heartwarming, and fiercely entertaining escape, this exceptional audiobook is an absolute delight from start to finish.
