Trouble Brewing by Walker Rose is an absolute masterpiece that completely reminded me why this author has become one of my favorite voices in cowboy romance. This smoldering, slow-burn Western delivers so much more than a typical love story, drawing you in from chapter one with unforgettable characters, heartfelt emotions, and an abundance of small-town charm.

Book Description

Welcome to Scandal, North Dakota, where loyalty runs deep and rivalries never die—especially between a country girl and a city boy who’s forgotten his roots…

Calder

I swore I’d never return to my family ranch and brewery. Those memories are best left buried in the dust. But when my father passes, it’s on me to shut down and sell up. The problem? Meredith Winslow—the girl running my father’s business. Except she’s no longer a girl… In those tight jeans, with a hotter-than-hell smirk and a fiery temper to match, she’s all woman. And she’s refusing to leave.

Meredith agrees to show me the ropes so I can help out until we sell. It’s exhausting work, so why can’t I sleep at night? Is it the paper-thin wall between us, the question of what she’s wearing to bed, or the thought of taking away the only home she’s ever known?

Meredith

I’ve worn my boots to the bone at Crossroads, feeding the horses by day and serving beer to the locals by night. Then brooding, bossy, sex-in-a-suit Calder turns up to kick the door closed on my life with one perfectly polished shoe.

This is the place I grew up wild and free. Calder says we have to leave it all behind. And I can’t let that happen…

Because somewhere between the eye rolls and heated arguments, early morning starts turn into late night flirting. Calling last orders turns into roaming hands and finally knowing what his stubble feels like against my neck. Riding side-by-side with our legs brushing turns into a hard, fast, stolen moment against a fence post…

Our chemistry burns hotter than any North Dakota summer. But this man might take everything from me—and if he keeps looking at me with those sparkling brown eyes, I’m worried I might just hand it right to him…

A smouldering, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers Western romance that will have you swooning all night long. Perfect for fans of Elsie Silver, Lyla Sage and Jessica Peterson.

About Walker Rose

I live the dream in my own slice of paradise where I get to enjoy colorful sunsets from my rocking chair while I’m working. I have my very own romance hero with Mr. Rose and there’s more than a few little rose buds running around. A couple aren’t so little anymore! We keep things interesting with cats and a dog and the critters that roam though the yard (fingers crossed the mountain lions stay away).

My Thoughts

Trouble Brewing by Walker Rose is an absolute masterpiece that completely reminded me why this author has become one of my favorite voices in cowboy romance. This smoldering, slow-burn Western delivers so much more than a typical love story, drawing you in from chapter one with unforgettable characters, heartfelt emotions, and an abundance of small-town charm.

The story takes us to Scandal, North Dakota, where loyalty runs deep and rivalries never die. Calder, a brooding, bossy city boy who has forgotten his roots, has sworn never to return to his family ranch and brewery. However, when his father passes away, he is forced to return with one perfectly polished shoe to shut down and sell up the property.

The main obstacle in his way is Meredith Winslow, the country girl who has been running the business and wearing her boots to the bone to keep it afloat. She is no longer the girl he remembers; with her tight jeans, hotter-than-hell smirk, and fiery temper, she is all woman and completely refuses to let him kick the door closed on the only life and home she has ever known.

Watching Meredith stand up for what she wants and finally put herself first is incredibly empowering, and the banter, push-and-pull, and sheer tension between the two leads is spectacular. To help expedite the sale, Meredith agrees to show Calder the ropes, leading to exhausting workdays and sleepless nights.

Between the eye rolls and heated arguments, their early morning starts quickly turn into late-night flirting and undeniable chemistry. Calder is desperate to protect the bond he has with his brothers, but he cannot resist falling for the one girl he shouldn't have, especially when their proximity reveals a genuinely swoon-worthy, protective side to his grumpy exterior.

Their attraction burns hotter than a North Dakota summer, escalating from stolen glances to roaming hands and hard, fast, passionate moments against a fence post. Meredith is well aware that this man has the power to take everything from her, yet his sparkling eyes make her want to hand it right over.

The phenomenal audiobook narration by Michelle Sparks and Troy Duran elevates this entire experience to a whole new level. The off-the-charts chemistry between the two narrators perfectly captures the raw desire, quick wit, and deep emotional stakes of the characters.

Walker Rose’s brilliant writing style makes it incredibly easy to get lost in the story, creating a fiery and genuine romance that will have you swooning all night long. It is an absolute must-read or must-listen for fans of Elsie Silver, and Jessica Peterson.
