The Troublemaker by Piper Rayne absolutely hit it out of the park, proving that the Dugout Series just keeps getting better and better! I have been so incredibly excited for Easton Bailey’s story, and this book delivered everything I wanted and more. Piper Rayne has crafted a heartfelt, funny, and deeply emotional romance filled with unparalleled chemistry, wonderful family values, and a jaw-dropping twist that literally left my jaw on the floor.

Book Description

A fake marriage deal was never in my life’s plan.

Especially not to Easton Bailey.

Chicago Colts flashy shortstop.
The kind of man built for a good time and allergic to forever.
And the one who just slid a ring on my finger… on paper.

It’s supposed to be simple.
A mutually beneficial arrangement.
I play nanny to his son. He plays husband to my family.

No emotions. No complications. And absolutely no falling for each other.

Turns out pretending to be a family is the fastest way to break every rule we set.

Because he watches me like it was never just a deal.
Because he trusts me with the person who matters most.
Because the more we pretend, the less fake it feels.

And now the man who was never supposed to stay is the one I can't lose.

My Thoughts

The Troublemaker by Piper Rayne absolutely hit it out of the park, proving that the Dugout Series just keeps getting better and better! I have been so incredibly excited for Easton Bailey’s story, and this book delivered everything I wanted and more. Piper Rayne has crafted a heartfelt, funny, and deeply emotional romance filled with unparalleled chemistry, wonderful family values, and a jaw-dropping twist that literally left my jaw on the floor.

Easton has always been the Chicago Colts' flashy shortstop—a lighthearted, extroverted playboy built for a good time and completely allergic to forever. But his entire world shifts in a single night when a baby is left on a bar doorstep with a letter claiming he’s the father. Thrown into sudden single-fatherhood while balancing a professional baseball career, he finds himself in desperate need of help.

Enter Hadley, a commitment-phobic free spirit who has spent years traveling the world to avoid her family's strict expectations. When her beloved grandmother passes away, Hadley returns home for the reading of the will, only to discover she must find a husband to inherit her grandmother's cherished children's bookstore.

Since Easton and Hadley have shared a casual, no-strings relationship over the last two years, a mutually beneficial fake marriage seems like the easiest choice. Hadley gets her bookstore and plays nanny to precious baby Tanner, while Easton gets a temporary wife to appease his family and help with his son. They agree to a one-year timeline with strict rules: no emotions, no complications, and absolutely no falling for each other.

Of course, pretending to be a family is the fastest way to break every single rule. It doesn’t even take a month for them to fall deeply in love, even if it takes them much longer to actually admit it. Their transition from friends to lovers flows seamlessly because they see each other for who they truly are beyond their public personas.

Between the witty banter and unwavering support, their connection only grows stronger through every challenge. They fight the underlying attraction as long as they can, but when they finally give in, they are absolutely scorching together! Watching them navigate parenthood and build a safe place for each other was truly adorable, giving these two the perfect, well-deserved happily ever after.

The found family aspect of this series is absolute perfection, and it shines so brightly in this installment. The cameos, the incredible friendships, the chaotic family dynamics, and all the kiddos make the entire world feel so vibrant and alive.

What elevates The Troublemaker into something truly spectacular is the phenomenal multicast audiobook narration. Christine Lakin and Connor Crais are magnificent as the leads, perfectly capturing Easton's grumpy-yet-protective side and Hadley’s fierce independence.

The star-studded supporting cast—including J.F. Harding, Sean Masters, Teddy Hamilton, CJ Bloom, Erin Mallon, Willa Jaymes, Meg Sylvan, and Austin Stone—brings something so special to the story, leaving your heart rooting for every single player. It is a beautiful conclusion to a series that belongs in the record books, and I cannot wait to read more from this author!
