Micalea Smeltzer delivers an absolutely phenomenal, high-stakes romance with Second Serve, a deeply emotional story that will give you all the feels, navigating the highest ups, the lowest downs, and everything in between. To get the absolute most out of this book, it is highly recommended to read the first two installments of the series beforehand. Immersing yourself in the established friendships among the core couples and experiencing the agonizing anticipation of what went wrong between Ebba and Fisher makes this second-chance journey infinitely more rewarding.

Book Description

Ebba

My life imploded after a biking accident left me with a broken leg and ended my dance career. The only bright spot in my life was Fisher, but our relationship had to be a secret since coached my brother’s biggest rival. But like most things in my life good things never last and our relationship fell apart. It doesn’t stop him from watching me with lost puppy dog eyes, though.

My best friend’s combined bachelorette and bachelor party in Vegas should be a rare occasion to let loose, but with Fisher tagging along with the groom everywhere, it’s impossible to hide from him, and maybe it’s time I stopped running.

Fisher

I have no one to blame but myself for my lonely, miserable existence. Nothing in my life has felt right since things ended with Ebba. It doesn’t help that there’s no escaping her since she travels with her brother on the ATP Tour. I know I messed things up. I wasn’t there when she needed me most and I’ll never forgive myself for that. It doesn’t stop me from wanting a second chance with her.

Waking up married to Ebba after a drunken night in Vegas wasn’t on my bingo card, but I’m prepared to use it to my full advantage. Instead of getting the marriage annulled right away, I convince her to give me six months to prove myself to her. If after that, she still truly can’t love me again, we’ll quietly divorce.

It’ll crush me, but her happiness means everything to me.

My thoughts

Micalea Smeltzer delivers an absolutely phenomenal, high-stakes romance with Second Serve, a deeply emotional story that will give you all the feels, navigating the highest ups, the lowest downs, and everything in between. To get the absolute most out of this book, it is highly recommended to read the first two installments of the series beforehand. Immersing yourself in the established friendships among the core couples and experiencing the agonizing anticipation of what went wrong between Ebba and Fisher makes this second-chance journey infinitely more rewarding.

The story centers on Ebba, whose life completely imploded after a devastating biking accident broke her leg and abruptly ended her promising dance career. The only bright spot during that dark time was Fisher, but because he coached her brother’s fiercest rival on the ATP Tour, their relationship had to be kept a strict secret. Like most good things in Ebba's life, the relationship ultimately fell apart when she needed him most, leaving her to carry immense pain and running from the past. Since she travels with her brother on tour, escaping Fisher is impossible, forcing him to spend his days watching her with miserable, lost puppy-dog eyes.

Fisher has no one to blame but himself for his lonely existence, and he has never forgiven himself for letting her down. Waking up legally married to Ebba after a wild, drunken night in Las Vegas during a combined bachelor and bachelorette party certainly wasn't on his bingo card, but he is a man who yearns deeply and refuses to let this accidental second chance go to waste. Instead of agreeing to an immediate annulment, Fisher uses the situation to his full advantage, convincing a reluctant Ebba to give him just six months to prove himself. If she still can’t find it in her heart to love him after that, he promises to grant a quiet divorce—even if it utterly crushes him, because her happiness means everything to him.

Faced with a forced proximity situation like no other, Ebba finally decides it is time to stop running. Watching her work through her deep-seated pain to build a new life with Fisher is incredibly moving. Fisher proves himself to be the ultimate devoted hero, determined to cherish his wife and make amends for past mistakes at every turn. Second Serve perfectly balances the high-energy drama of the professional tennis world with a tender, slow-burn accidental marriage that will make you fall in love with these characters all over again.
