Book Description

From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby comes the first installment of the Silver Springs series, Pretty Little Scars, a small-town, forbidden, forced proximity romance set in Montana!

I absolutely should not be attracted to my boss.

I’m living on Tucker Hendrix’s ranch for the next year as a veterinary intern. But imagine my surprise when I walk onto the property on my first day and recognize the owner.

He’s the mysterious customer I used to flirt with at the diner all those years ago.

Now, the chemistry is hotter than ever, and all I can think about is his muscles and the fact that none of my scars bother him.

He’s seen everything that no one else has, and he’s not running away from me, or the fact that I’m a Lexington sister and we come from a monster.

In fact, for the first time in my life, a man is patient, gentle, and treats me like I’m the most important thing in his universe. Like he can’t live without me.

Like my scars aren’t the failure of a lifetime.

I’m starting to see a life for myself here with this man, on this gorgeous Montana ranch. His family has welcomed me into the fold as if it were a foregone conclusion.

But someone is hell bent on hurting me and making sure I don’t get the happy life I’ve worked so hard for.

Will they succeed? Or will Tucker and I come out the other side stronger than ever?

My Thoughts

Oh my word, Kristen Proby—what have you done? Pretty Little Scars, the spectacular first installment of the Silver Springs series, took me on an absolute emotional journey that left me completely shattered, utterly swooning, and begging for the next book. Set against the gorgeous backdrop of a Montana ranch, this small-town, forbidden, forced-proximity romance is pure gold.

The story follows Darby Lexington, a veterinary intern carrying far more than her fair share of trauma, making it incredibly difficult for her to trust anyone. When she walks onto the ranch for her first day, she is shocked to realize her new boss is Tucker Hendrix—the mysterious customer she used to flirt with at a diner years ago. Back then, Tucker never found the courage to ask her out, but now that fate has brought them back together, the chemistry between them is hotter than ever. Despite the professional boundaries they should keep, the attraction is impossible to ignore.

Darby’s journey toward healing is deeply moving. My heart ached for everything she and her siblings have endured at the hands of a monstrous father; the flashbacks into her past were heartbreaking, but watching her fight to move forward was truly inspiring. You can’t help but root for her every step of the way, especially as she navigates the physical and emotional scars she views as a lifetime failure.

And Tucker? He is officially top-tier, certified book-boyfriend material. He is everything dreams are made of—patient, gentle, and fiercely loyal. The way he loves and cherishes Darby unconditionally completely melted my heart. He respects her boundaries, gives her space, and slowly chips away at the walls she built around herself, never waving for a second once he decides she is the one. Can we talk about how every time he does something as simple as cook for her, he just replies, "Bare minimum"? That meant everything. He treats her like the most important thing in his universe, proving that none of her scars or her past could ever scare him away.

Their relationship develops at the perfect pace, building into something that feels genuine, safe, and lasting. Of course, it wouldn't be a small-town romance without a little drama, as someone is hell-bent on hurting Darby and ruining the happy life she has worked so hard for, keeping you on the edge of your seat to see if they will come out stronger on the other side.

As incredible as the book is, the audiobook adaptation elevates this story to a whole new level of magic. Performed in a flawless multicast duet narration, the cast includes Christian Fox, Stella Hunter, Jason Clarke, Connor Crais, Savannah Thomas, and Avery Caris voicing the townspeople and siblings who will lead future books (getting glimpses of Xander and Ivy has me desperately needing their story immediately!). At the center of it all are Sebastian York and Samantha Brentmoor as Tucker and Darby. Samantha brings a beautiful, slight rasp to her voice that adds so much emotional depth, while Sebastian delivers that signature gruffness that captures Tucker’s protective, loving personality perfectly.

Kristen Proby has a gift for creating relatable, immersive worlds filled with characters that are incredibly easy to love. This book hit me in all the feels, drew a few tears, and left me completely obsessed. It is a beautiful story of healing, love, and family, and I cannot wait to return to Silver Springs!
