Naughty Game by Lana Piers is a delightfully short, light, and fluffy contemporary romance that is absolutely perfect for reading in a single sitting. Though it is technically the third book in a novella series, it stands completely on its own as a seamless, easy-to-follow story packed with great pacing, an endearing cast of characters, and plenty of explosive spice.
Book Description
A widowed event planner. An NHL player secretly obsessed with her. One fake marriage that suddenly feels dangerously real.
Peyton never expected her late husband’s mistakes to follow her long after his death.
Now she’s drowning in debt, being threatened by dangerous men, and running out of time to fix a problem she never created.
Wendell has spent years pretending Peyton is just his best friend’s girl.
The Edmonton Renegades hockey star never crossed the line. Never admitted he’s been hopelessly in love with her since the day she accidentally stopped his panic attack in a park eight years ago.
But when Peyton’s safety is threatened, the protective NHL player makes her one impossible offer:
Marry him.
The fake marriage is only supposed to last long enough for Wendell to protect her, eliminate her debt, and keep her safe.
Too bad sharing a bed with the woman he’s secretly loved for years destroys every ounce of his self-control.
Now the grumpy hockey player who was supposed to act like her husband can’t stop touching her, taking care of her, worshipping her body, or imagining forever.
But Peyton still believes she’s too broken, too complicated, and too much of a burden for anyone to truly want.
And Wendell knows the second she realizes she no longer needs his protection… she might walk away for good.
Because after years of pretending friendship was enough, the NHL star is finally done hiding what he really wants:
Her. Forever.

My Thoughts
Naughty Game by Lana Piers is a delightfully short, light, and fluffy contemporary romance that is absolutely perfect for reading in a single sitting. Though it is technically the third book in a novella series, it stands completely on its own as a seamless, easy-to-follow story packed with great pacing, an endearing cast of characters, and plenty of explosive spice.
The plot blends some of the best romance tropes, featuring a high-stakes marriage of convenience, forced proximity, and a deeply emotional friends-to-lovers journey. The story follows Peyton, a widowed event planner who is suddenly drowning in debt and facing threats due to her late husband’s past mistakes. Desperate to keep her safe, her long-time friend Wendell—a grumpy NHL player for the Edmonton Renegades—steps in with an impossible offer: marry him so he can protect her and clear her financial burden.
What Peyton doesn’t know is that Wendell has been secretly obsessed and hopelessly in love with her ever since she helped him through a panic attack in a park eight years ago. For years, he played the role of the supportive friend, but sharing a bed as fake husband and wife quickly obliterates his self-control. The "he falls first" and possessive hero energy is top-tier here, as Wendell shifts from a protective guardian to a man determined to worship her body and convince her that this marriage should be forever.
While Peyton struggles with the emotional angst of feeling like too much of a burden to truly be wanted, Wendell is entirely done hiding his true feelings. Lana Piers strikes a wonderful balance between heartfelt emotional growth, protective hockey romance, and sizzling chemistry. If you are looking for a quick, engaging escape that delivers both sweet romance and hot, spicy scenes, I highly recommend picking up Naughty Game. It is a fantastic introduction to this author's work, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more from her series!
