Ice Ice Baby by Carly Robyn is a slow-burn hockey romance that feels like a warm hug, and I absolutely adored everything about it. As the first book in the Boston Bobcats series, it delivers a fresh, mature spin on the sports romance genre that hooked me from the very first page.
Book Description
He's the plot twist she didn't see coming . . .
Enter Nicholas "Cole" Barrett, the Boston Bobcats' star player. He's built his whole life around the game, and it's paid off. He's got his routine perfected until Maya crashes into it with stories, sarcasm, and a smile he can't stop thinking about. She's not chasing a puck or a paycheck, and for once, he's not thinking about the next practice or game, he's thinking about her.
Maya's not interested in being won over, but Cole is used to pursuing things worth winning. And as they spend more time together, the harder it is to ignore the fiery pull between them and the way their connection feels like something more. But having spent her whole life believing true love was only found in books, will Maya be brave enough to begin a love story of her own?
About Carly Robyn
Carly Robyn writes contemporary romances with heart, heat, and humor. When she's not writing or reading, you can find her spending time with her family, scrolling through TikTok, exploring Chicago's restaurant scene with friends, watching a Grand Prix, taking a million photos of her dogs Quincy and Owen, or binge-watching anything true-crime related while drinking Diet Coke.
My Thoughts
Ice Ice Baby by Carly Robyn is a slow-burn hockey romance that feels like a warm hug, and I absolutely adored everything about it. As the first book in the Boston Bobcats series, it delivers a fresh, mature spin on the sports romance genre that hooked me from the very first page.
The story follows Maya Silver, an introverted, romance-loving bookstore manager who has shelved the idea of real-life love, and Nicholas "Cole" Barrett, a swoon-worthy NHL superstar used to pursuing things worth winning. Instantly captivated, Cole is determined to show Maya that happily ever afters exist outside of fiction, even if it means reading alien smut to win her over. Their connection builds beautifully from a fresh, realistic meet-cute into a wonderful friendship, balancing Maya’s slight grumpiness with Cole’s patient, devoted sunshine. As a fellow book lover who is always ready to talk novels, I found Maya incredibly relatable, and their top-tier banter and fiery chemistry kept the tension perfectly dialed up.
Beyond the main couple, the book is filled with fantastic bookish vibes, delicious spice, and low-drama tension. The supporting cast brings a wonderful found-family warmth to the story—with Goose completely stealing the show—making the entire world feel incredibly cozy and inviting.
I listened to this via audiobook and the narration by Callie Dalton and JD Tomlinson was fantastic. Their engaging character voices felt entirely real and distinct, making an already unputdownable book even better. Carly Robyn’s writing style is completely addictive, and after devouring every minute of this sweet, charming book, I cannot wait to see what happens next in book two of the Boston Bobcats!
