XOXO, Summer by S.L. Scott is a romance that feels like sunshine wrapped up in love, family, and healing, completely stealing my heart. This book delivers the absolute perfect introduction to Mountain Laurel Cove, a charming small-town setting that readers will never want to leave. From the very first page, I was so utterly hooked by the beautiful scenery, the warm summertime vibes of beach views and rental cottages, and the fantastic cast of characters that I devoured the entire story in a single sitting. It is impossible to resist the Season sisters or their wonderfully sassy grandmother Dolly, and I am desperately hoping this becomes a series so we can get more from this incredible family.
The story follows Summer, the eldest sister, whose whole world revolves around keeping her family together and protecting the small town she loves so fiercely after the loss of her parents ten years ago. Having carried the weight of being her family's foundation for so long, her own dreams of owning the rental cottages she manages have quietly slipped into the background. Her life changes completely when big-city developers threaten the property, and Daniel Sutton checks in next door. Daniel is a devastatingly handsome, six-foot-four hockey player and single dad with a hothead reputation, a career hanging in the balance at thirty-five, and a summer planned to reconnect with his precious eight-year-old son, Roman, away from the pressures of the ice.
When a plumbing disaster strikes the cottage, Summer offers Daniel and Roman a place to stay, leading to a fake-dating arrangement that benefits them both: Daniel offers to buy the cottage to save it from demolition if Summer helps him clean up his public reputation.
