Book Description

#4 Callum Duquette. Placekicker for the Boston Tomcats. Former underwear model. NICKNAME: Duke.

I thought the most annoying thing about being a single dad was that my friends were always trying to find me a date. Until a sassy British ray of sunshine bumps into me at a bookstore. One accidental butt grab, a viral photo, and a lot of misunderstandings later, I find myself in a fake relationship with a movie star.

Now I’ve got my friends off my back, but the cheeky Brit has complicated my life even more.

She calls me the Duke of Grumpville.
I call her movies the end of civilization as we know it.

She calls my job “the wrong kind of football.”
I call her the one thing on Earth that can make me lose focus and control.

It’s getting harder to pretend I still want this to end after my team’s game in London.

I thought we were only faking it.
But getting to know the real Millie Darden changed everything.

About Kayley Loring and Connor Crais

Kayley Loring - Amazon Top 25 and USA Today bestselling author Kayley Loring spent many years as a screenwriter (under a different name) in Los Angeles before moving to the Pacific Northwest to live out her childhood dream of being a Disney heroine who talks and sings to woodland creatures. When not trying to keep animals alive, she’s writing steamy romantic comedy novels, obviously. She’s breathing cleaner air, writing dirtier words, and staring at her computer screen until her eyeballs dry out instead of prancing around Southern California in miniskirts and going to the hair salon. Still waiting for the woodland creatures to clean her house, though.

Read or listen to Kayley’s books when you want humor, heat, and heart. You’ll enjoy top-notch banter, strong heroines, lovable characters you’d want to know in real life and you’ll swoon over perfectly imperfect book boyfriends. All Kayley Loring books are steamy open door romance. Be sure to check out her next-level audiobooks!

Listen to Kayley talk to the wildly talented narrators who narrate her audiobooks and her wildly talented author friends on the Multiple Eargasms with Kayley Loring podcast!

Connor Crais - Connor Crais is an Audie Award-winning classically trained actor living in the Midwest with his wife and three young kids. He has been both a stage and television actor, and before plunging into the romance genre, he had been narrating commercials, audiobooks, and explainers for well over a decade from his home studio. From alphas to bosses to cocky sports stars (a particular favorite), he loves sparring with beautiful, sassy heroines (and their talented narrators) but also loves winning them over and reaching that happily ever after. He is excited to now be an Amazon Top 100 bestselling author.

My Thoughts

Duke by Kayley Loring and Connor Crais is a magnificent single-dad, fake-dating sports romance that kicks a winning field goal straight into your heart. As the third installment in the Boston Tomcats series, this grumpy-versus-sunshine story stands perfectly on its own while bringing all the signature humor, high-heat passion, and emotional depth fans love from this dynamic writing duo.

The story kicks off with a hilarious, Notting Hill-esque bookstore meet-cute involving an accidental butt grab, a viral paparazzi photo, and a mountain of misunderstandings between NFL placekicker Callum “Duke” Duquette and British movie starlet Millie Darden.

Millie is a bold, brazen, and brilliantly sassy English actress filming a Shakespeare adaptation in Boston. Known primarily as a former child star, she is a literal ray of sunshine who loves to rile Duke up with her quick wit, sarcastic banter, and delightfully made-up words.

Callum, number four on the field and a former underwear model, initially guards his life with a broody exterior. He playfully scoffs at her films and dismisses her sport of choice as "the wrong kind of football." However, both are facing intense pressure from friends and family to get back into the dating scene. When the media catches them together, Millie proposes a fake relationship to get the matchmakers off their backs.

Though Duke generally loathes the spotlight, he agrees to the ruse to avoid disappointing his eleven-year-old daughter, Chloe, who happens to be a massive fan of Millie's. While Duke might play the role of the Duke of Grumpville, peeling back his layers reveals a fiercely loyal, incredibly dedicated father who is essentially a giant cinnamon roll on the inside. Chloe completely holds her own in the story, displaying a confidence-boosted charm that easily steals the show.

As the fake relationship progresses from local Boston dates to a highly anticipated NFL game in London, their magnetic, page-turning chemistry becomes impossible to deny. The story keeps readers thoroughly entertained and giggling nonstop with a rich tapestry of side content, including enticing underwear commercials, Quizzlemore movie marathons, interviews on Millieville, and hilarious group text exchanges that make the entire world feel incredibly rich and cohesive.

Listening to the audiobook takes this already joyful story and turns it into pure audio bliss. Performed in a flawless duet narration, Connor Crais portrays Duke with the perfect blend of grump, charm, and swoon, while expertly voicing a colorful cast of supporting characters. Desiree Ketchum’s melodic British accent is music to the ears, capturing Millie’s passionate, spitfire persona to perfection. Adding to this audio delight are the supporting cast of voices of Mackenzie Cartwright and Evan Parker.

Together, Loring and Crais have crafted a funny, sexy, and deeply heartwarming romance that offers a fitting, touchdown-worthy conclusion to a beloved series.
