Paper Rings is everything I could have hoped for in a kickoff to a new generation of the Boston Bolts. Just when I thought Brittanee Nicole couldn't possibly top her previous work, she manages to outdo herself with this incredible friends-to-strangers-to-lovers hockey romance. Featuring the children of our favorite characters, the story follows Addie Langsfield—the daughter of Beckett and Liv—and JJ Hanson, the son of Cat and Jay. As lifelong goalies who grew up playing together and against one another, their history is deep, complicated, and filled with years of unspoken love that eventually turned into an icy silence.

Book Description

From the bestselling author of the Boston Bolts Hockey Series comes a friends-to-strangers-to-lovers hockey romance featuring the next generation of Langfields.

There are only two things I’ve ever truly wanted in my life. To be a goalie in the NHL and JJ Hanson.

In a twisted way, both dreams have come true. Rather than a spot on the roster though, I’m now the first female goalie coach in the NHL. JJ Hanson’s coach, specifically.

Not only is he one of my players—making him totally off limits—he’s also a single dad and still technically married. Oh, and thanks to my father’s meddling, he’s now my roommate, along with his cousin and her three kids, my sister and her four-year-old twins, my cousin, and JJ’s daughter, who I unfortunately adore.

Yup, I’m living with six kids under the age of five, and the only man I’ve ever loved.

There was a time when JJ was my closest friend, and for one perfect moment, he was mine. Now we don’t even talk. JJ is determined to change that, though, and when opportunity strikes and suddenly both of my dreams are within reach, I have to make a decision. Can I step out onto that ice as the first female goalie in the NHL and trust JJ with my heart?

I’ve never been one to walk away from a challenge. Maybe the only way JJ and I can move forward is to go back to the start.

Paper Rings is a friends-to-lovers, single-dad, second-chance hockey romance with dual POV and a dual timeline featuring a Brownstone like Mother Faker and many of your favorite characters from the Langfield Brothers’ family. It is the first book in the New Romantics Series and a complete standalone.

About Brittanee Nicole

Brittanee is an author who lives in New England with her husband and two children. Her town is a character in itself in all of her books. When she is not writing she enjoys spending time outdoors by the water with her children, reading at the beach or by the pool (or really anywhere), dancing with her friends, singing Karaoke, spinning, bike riding and boating.

My Thoughts

The setup is masterfully chaotic and delightful: Addie, an Olympic medalist and the first female NHL goalie coach, suddenly finds herself coaching JJ. To make matters more complicated—and infinitely more entertaining—a series of events forces JJ, a single dad to the adorable Avery, to move into the bustling brownstone where Addie lives with her sister, cousin, and a chaotic crew of young kids. It’s a premise that perfectly captures the charm of the Langfield world, blending intense emotional stakes with those hilarious group texts and heartwarming cameos that fans of the series will absolutely adore.

I am a sucker for a well-executed second-chance romance, and this one is pure gold. Told through dual timelines, the book is a raw, vulnerable emotional roller coaster that explores the yearning and angst of two people who have always been "inevitable." JJ is the ultimate book boyfriend—caring, gorgeous, and a fantastic father to Avery—and watching Addie bond with his daughter melted my heart. Beyond the spice and the undeniable chemistry, what truly stands out is how Brittanee Nicole writes these families. It is beautiful to see the unwavering, fierce support the men in this world have for the women they love, whether as spouses or daughters.

Paper Rings is more than just a sports romance; it’s an empowering story about finding your place, trusting your heart, and fighting for the person who has known you all along. With its perfect mix of real-life struggles, steamy tension, and deep, enduring obsession, this book earned a place on my favorites list immediately. I would give it more than five stars if I could, and I am already impatiently waiting for the next installment in The New Romantics series. If you love a story that makes you laugh, cry, and cheer, this is an absolute must-read.
