Jack Bodett returns for the fourth installment of the No Stress Space Express series with Gentlemen Prefer Martians, a cozy, low-stakes, slice-of-life sci-fi adventure that continues to deliver heart-warming fun.
Book Description
Navigating space was the easy part...
See, Jenna’s got feelings for Mike she ain’t ready to share, but you can't play hard-to-get when one of your passengers is a big blue slug who can read your emotions like an interstate billboard. Toss in Karlie and Feebee, the galaxy’s most lovable agents of mayhem, and things go off the rails faster than a circus train on ice.
Grab your popcorn and buckle up, this one's gonna be a tall tale for the ages.
No Stress Space Express is a series about finding your true family, told with the common-sense wisdom of Jerry Boyd's Bob and Nikki series (Bob's Saucer Repair), and the low-stakes world building of Travis Baldree's Legends & Lattes. Join Rusty and his crew for a heart-warming, laugh-out-loud adventure with no tension, and no drama. Just good clean fun, great friendships, and a little romance too.

He believes that with a good sense of humor, a willingness to help others, and a well-stocked tool belt, anyone can bang together their own happy ending.
My Thoughts
Jack Bodett returns for the fourth installment of the No Stress Space Express series with Gentlemen Prefer Martians, a cozy, low-stakes, slice-of-life sci-fi adventure that continues to deliver heart-warming fun.
The story picks up right where the previous book left off, finally addressing the cliffhanger that found Mike Harlan and Jenna Moondrift unexpectedly decked out in wedding attire. While Jenna might not be ready to admit her feelings for Mike, it is hard to keep a secret when your passenger is a giant blue slug capable of reading emotions like a billboard.
The explanation for their "interesting" wardrobe is far more complicated and sticky than a simple elopement, proving that while navigating space is easy, navigating social situations is a different story. Rusty Ray Dixon and his Martian bride, Piper Skyflare, find themselves trying to catch up on recent events while dealing with the lingering medical emergency and gravity anomalies that have plagued the crew.
These challenges push the boundaries of a "low-stakes" adventure, but the crew—along with the chaotic duo of Karlie and Feebee—manages to find their way onto a delightful side quest that keeps the momentum going. The audiobook narration by Neill Thorne and Rebecca Winder is very well done, perfectly capturing the spirit of a series that feels like a cross between the common-sense wisdom of Bob’s Saucer Repair and the cozy world-building of Legends & Lattes.
It is a refreshing, clean read with no swearing or violence, making it perfect for both adults and younger readers. Bodett peppers the story with clever pop-culture nods, including a WKRP in Cincinnati reference that adds a layer of nostalgia for long-time fans.
Ultimately, this is a story about finding your true family among the stars. With its blend of great friendships, light romance, and unexpected twists, Gentlemen Prefer Martians is a perfect choice for anyone looking to let their hair down and enjoy a laugh-out-loud adventure.
