I was completely hooked from the first few pages of The Rebel, the fifth installment in Layla Hagen’s inspiring LeBlanc Brothers series. Narrated by the talented duo Robert Hatchet and Megan Wicks, this workplace romance is an absolute page-turner that perfectly captures the vibrant spirit of New Orleans and the tight-knit bond of the LeBlanc family.

Book Description

In New Orleans, I'm known as the fun and laid-back LeBlanc brother. The Rebel CEO. I’m successful and determined, but I don't play by the rules. Heck, I don't even have rules except one. I never ever get involved with my assistants. After a very bad experience years ago, I know better than to mix business and pleasure.

I've had no problems sticking to my rule until I hired Daisy. When I first meet her, I have no idea she’s my new temp assistant. I just set eyes on this gorgeous woman at my favorite coffee shop, and do what I do flirt with her like there's no tomorrow. When I realize my mistake, I change the tune. I'm cold and distant but my plan is not working. Not one bit.

Whenever she steps into my office, all I think about is bending her over my desk.
When she gives me sass, all I want is to cover her mouth with mine until she begs for more. Daisy is fun and unlike anyone I've met, and I gravitate toward her whether I want it or not.

When she suddenly gets a call from home that her family needs help, I immediately take over. All lines blur, but one thing I know for sure, I won't let Daisy go. I just have to convince her that I'm the one.

And I'm very convincing when I want to.

My Thoughts

I was completely hooked from the first few pages of The Rebel, the fifth installment in Layla Hagen’s inspiring LeBlanc Brothers series. Narrated by the talented duo Robert Hatchet and Megan Wicks, this workplace romance is an absolute page-turner that perfectly captures the vibrant spirit of New Orleans and the tight-knit bond of the LeBlanc family.

Anthony LeBlanc is known as the fun, laid-back "Rebel CEO" of the family’s music venues, but he carries a cold reputation when it comes to his staff. After a past relationship with an assistant turned into a legal nightmare, he implemented one strict rule: never mix business with pleasure. He has become so difficult to work for that he’s burned through seven assistants in a single year, leaving him desperate for someone who can actually handle the job.

Enter Daisy Evanston, a strong and independent woman who moved from Chicago for a senior marketing position, only to have a hiring freeze leave her stranded. Taking a temporary role as Anthony’s assistant while she waits for a marketing opening, she meets her new boss in a local coffee shop before either of them realizes who the other is. Their instant, scorching flirtation over coffee makes the discovery of their professional connection in the office a total shock.

The chemistry between Anthony and Daisy is a literal fire hazard. While Anthony initially tries to remain cold and distant to protect his rule, Daisy’s sass and competence make her unlike anyone he has ever met. As they spend time together at his music venues, the lines between boss and assistant blur completely. I loved the thoughtful touches, like Anthony having different flavors of coffee delivered to her daily, showing a softer side to his "Rebel" persona.

The story is filled with the poignant moments and unexpected plot twists I’ve come to expect from Layla Hagen. It was wonderful to see the return of the meddling grandmothers, Isabeau and Celine, and their signature lilac fragrance, as well as catching up with the rest of the LeBlanc siblings and the adorable Bella. Anthony’s support for Daisy when her family in South Dakota needs her truly solidifies their bond, proving he is a man who shows up when it matters most.

From the playful banter to the heart-melting proposal that perfectly incorporates Daisy’s love for coffee, this story is a five-star journey. The epilogue, told from Anthony’s perspective, provides a beautiful ending with a surprise reveal that left me completely satisfied. The Rebel is a soulful, sizzling must-read, and I am already counting down the days for Beckett’s story to wrap up this incredible series.
