Book Description
Being a single dad while managing one of the biggest businesses in New Orleans keeps me very busy. I spend my free time with my daughter, Bella — reading to her, styling her hair, or choosing nail polishes appropriate for an eight-year-old.
But I’m okay with that because she is my whole world.
After my divorce, I made myself a promise: I wouldn’t date until Bella was older. Then all my good intentions go up in smoke when I hire our newest chef for the flagship restaurant in the French Quarter. Scarlett Jones is unlike any woman I’d ever met. She’s smart and beautiful and I can’t get enough of her.
For more reasons than one, I need to keep my distance. So when I begin flirting… surprising her with beignets and coffee at break time, then king cake after hours, I know I’ve gone too far. And when I join Scarlett on a ridiculous haunted tour of the city, I’m certain I’ve lost my mind. She’s become my addiction. I want to explore those curves, find out her deepest desires—and make them come true.
But it’s when she offers to teach my daughter how to bake, I know I’m in wayyyyy over my head. When the three of us are together, I get a glimpse of the family we could be.
The question is, are we both ready to put our fears behind us?
And to think, it all started with a little flirt.

My Thoughts
I left this book feeling ridiculously giddy from start to finish. Layla Hagen’s writing style drew me in instantly, and I devoured this low-angst romance like it was essential to my existence.
As the first installment in a new series set in the vibrant heart of New Orleans, it sets the bar incredibly high. Narrated to perfection by Lance Greenfield and Samantha Brentmoor, the story of Chad LeBlanc and Scarlett Jones is a sweet, heartfelt, and swoony journey that proves sometimes the best things in life start with a simple flirt.
Scarlett is an instantly likable and relatable heroine. As a talented chef starting fresh in the French Quarter after a breakup, her passion for her career and her infectious excitement for the city make her easy to root for. She certainly wasn't expecting an instant connection with her new boss, but Chad is the definition of a top-tier book boyfriend.
He is a devoted single father managing a massive business, yet he still finds time to style his eight-year-old daughter Bella's hair and pick out the perfect nail polish. His protective nature and the way he prioritizes his family make him the epitome of what a leading man should be.
The chemistry between them is a total fire hazard, further fueled by Chad’s surprisingly top-notch dirty talk. Despite his initial promise to avoid dating until his daughter was older, his intentions go up in smoke the moment he meets Scarlett.
Their "forbidden" workplace dynamic evolves through charming acts of service, from surprising her with beignets and coffee to joining her on a ridiculous haunted tour of the city. Watching Scarlett fall seamlessly into their lives—especially when she begins teaching Bella how to bake—gives a beautiful glimpse of the family they could become.
Chad and Scarlett’s story is a delightful, flirty gem that balances sassy humor with deeply touching moments. Chad’s ability to truly listen to Scarlett and support her dreams makes their bond feel earned and incredibly solid.
By the time the final chapter wrapped up their story so perfectly, I was already desperate for more of the LeBlanc brothers. This book is a crisp, perfection-filled hit for anyone who loves a soulful single-dad romance with a side of New Orleans magic.
