My Fight by Samantha Skye is a masterfully written, opposites-attract mafia romance that perfectly balances high-stakes action with a deeply tender heart. The story centers on Catherine, a fierce single mother and the head of a busy Philadelphia ER, and Carter Grange, a tattooed mob enforcer and MMA fighter. When Carter walks into her hospital "banged up" after a fight, the chemical pull between them is instantaneous and soul-piercing. Despite Cat’s deep-seated trust issues and a messy past she is desperate to keep away from her young daughter, Ivy, the sparks between her and Carter are impossible to ignore.

Book Description

I’m used to helping people fight for their lives. But I’ve never had anyone in my corner before...

The ER department is chaotic and intimidating to most. But for me, it’s one of the few places where I don’t feel like a disappointment. Heading up the team of a busy Philadelphia hospital isn’t exactly a picnic, but I’m confident here. Untouchable.

That is, until Carter Grange walks through the door.

He might be a little banged up, but that doesn’t stop his muscular frame rippling with power — or his deep blue eyes from piercing my soul. Carter is definitely not the sort of man I need right now, but when we find ourselves thrust together again by pure chance...well, the chemical pull is irresistible

Problem is, I have a messy past snapping at my heels, and a young daughter to protect from its clutches. This tattooed mobster isn’t the kind of man I should be playing house with.

But when push comes to shove, will Carter step into the ring for us?

My Thoughts

The narrative moves fluidly as their worlds collide again by pure chance when Cat’s sister signs her up for self-defense classes at Carter’s gym. What follows is a slow-burn realization that, while they come from vastly different backgrounds, they are exactly what the other needs. Catherine is a powerhouse who refuses to take crap from anyone, yet in Carter, she finally finds someone capable of being in her corner. Carter, despite his violent profession, reveals a surprisingly big heart, especially in his interactions with Ivy, who frequently steals the show with her humor and charm.

As their romance heats up and eventually lights the sheets on fire, the story leans into the suspense and intensity of the Philadelphia and New York mob scenes. When Cat’s persistent ex-husband and her past finally snap at her heels, the stakes shift from the ER to the ring. Watching Carter—a man who initially avoids attachments—step up to fight for the family he didn’t know he wanted is incredibly moving.

Samantha Skye paints perfectly descriptive scenes that capture both the grit of the mafia and the sweet, quiet moments of domesticity. With a blend of heat, humor, and heart-racing action, My Fight delivers a satisfying, 5-star conclusion to a beautifully developed relationship. It is an empowering read that proves even the most protective walls can be dismantled by the right person.
