My Thoughts

I devoured Midnight Prince by J. Saman, and it was everything I hoped for and more. After catching glimpses of Rowan in Cursed King, I had a feeling his story would be incredible, and I was absolutely right. This steamy, suspenseful contemporary fairytale retelling hooked me from the very first page and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire journey.

I chose the audio, and both Emma Wilder and Alex Knox were exceptional, truly bringing the characters to life. Rowan, known throughout the kingdom as a notorious playboy prince, meets his match when he is captivated by a mysterious woman at his brother’s wedding. Their undeniable chemistry leads to an unforgettable one-night stand, but by midnight, she is gone, leaving Rowan frustrated and unable to track her down.

The woman is Ella, who attended the wedding with a dangerous secret agenda to save her half-sister. Fate eventually brings her back to the castle under a new identity as Marcella, an aide who must navigate a high-stakes environment while Rowan grows increasingly suspicious of the familiar woman in his path. The tension between them is filled with angst and slow-burning intensity, especially as Marcella’s complex family backstory adds layers of depth and constant twists to the plot.

One of the highlights for me was the interconnected nature of the series. Getting more time with beloved characters like Sebastian, Bellamy, Phaedra, Sabrina, Zayer, and Arthur makes this world feel vibrant and lived-in. The underlying mystery involving the family curse continues to build, and I am still trying to piece everything together.

If you are looking for a story with emotional depth, gripping suspense, and characters you can’t help but root for, I highly recommend the Once Upon Ever After series. J. Saman has delivered a brilliant standalone romance with a plot that truly delivers, and I am already counting down the days until the next installment.
