My Thoughts
Knot Stepping Down by N. Slater is a fabulous MM omegaverse romance that packs an incredible amount of heart, spice, and tension into a compelling novella. Narrated with great skill by Nathaniel Ames and Gordon B. Diamond, the story follows the whirlwind romance between Avery and Declan.
While their relationship moves quickly, the foundation of their connection is deeply rooted in years of growing feelings and the complicated reality of being stepbrothers. The tension between them simmers beautifully through glances and flirting, eventually boiling over into a romance that feels both sweet and scorching.
The dynamic between them is refreshing, particularly with Avery taking the lead. In a genre where alphas typically make the first move, seeing an omega like Avery go after exactly what he wants—even bidding for Declan at the Winter Alpha auction—is a fantastic twist. Avery is endearing and determined, pushing for what he wants with confidence.
Declan is equally wonderful as an alpha: protective, kind, and fiercely supportive. Despite the potential for rumors surrounding their forbidden connection, he is happy to be open about their relationship immediately. He consistently puts his omega first, and his "pretty boy" nickname for Avery is simply adorable.
Even as a shorter read, the book successfully balances a bit of angst with a lot of love, making every moment at Knotlocke Academy count. The narration perfectly captures the emotion of their world, breathing life into this high-stakes sports novella. It is a must-listen that proves some risks are always worth taking.
