Book Description
Roping horses leads to riding cowboys in this sexy friends-to-lovers, fake-dating, lessons-in-seduction romance by Jessica Peterson.
He’s exactly what I’m looking for. If only Wyatt wasn’t also my best friend…
I’m back in my hometown of Harstville, Texas, for a few months while I wait for my dream job to start thousands of miles away. While I’m here, I hope to end an epic dry spell in the bedroom, preferably with a local cowboy. If the rumors are true, they really do ride harder and stay on longer.
Wyatt and I have been best friends since second grade, and I’ve been in love with him for almost as long. But he’s as wild and untamed as a colt that can’t be broken—not to mention, totally out of my league with his good looks and heartbreaker reputation.
Then I get to thinking: since Wyatt is such an expert, why doesn’t he teach me the ropes of how to find a hookup? He begrudgingly agrees, and a little fake flirting suddenly leads to fake dating, which leads to real kissing, which leads to real…well, everything else.
And let me just say, the rumors are absolutely true.
Now, I want so badly to be Wyatt’s last rodeo. But I’m leaving town, and even if I wasn’t, I’m not sure Wyatt would ever change his playboy ways.
I know cowboys can’t be tamed. Apparently, neither can hearts…
WYATT is an interconnected standalone novel in the Lucky River Ranch series.

My Thoughts
Wyatt by Jessica Peterson is an epic friends-to-lovers romance that truly hits every mark. Narrated with flawless precision by Stephen Dexter and Lila Winters, this story follows Wyatt Rivers and Sally, who have been best friends since second grade. Both have harbored secret feelings for over twenty years, and the mutual pining between them is palpable from the very first page. Jessica Peterson expertly weaves in their history through a brief prologue, allowing the depth of their connection to shine without getting bogged down by excessive flashbacks.
The story picks up as Sally returns to Hartsville after finishing veterinarian school. She has a high-stakes job waiting for her in New York, but she’s battling major second thoughts. It was refreshing to see her career conflict handled so realistically; her decision to stay in Texas feels like a personal choice for her own fulfillment and the work she loves, rather than just a sacrifice for a man. Meanwhile, Wyatt acts as the foreman on his family’s ranch, hiding a deep well of grief and fear behind a "cowboy Casanova" mask. Sally is the only person who truly sees past his happy-go-lucky facade, making their eventual emotional opening-up incredibly heartwarming.
The chemistry is pure fire, especially when Sally enlists Wyatt to "teach her the ropes" of seduction to boost her confidence. What starts as fake flirting and dating quickly evolves into a series of spicy, high-tension encounters that prove the rumors about cowboys are absolutely true. The dirty talk and the way they fit together—like Jack and Coke—kept me hooked and turning pages. I also loved the growth of the Rivers brothers' relationships, specifically a sweet moment where Sawyer looks out for Wyatt, which has me even more invested in the "scraps" Jessica left us for Sawyer’s upcoming book.
While the story is a beautiful blend of heart and heat, the climax takes a turn into the bizarre when Sally’s father, John B., holds Wyatt at gunpoint because he’s upset about her career changes. Even with the "safety was on" excuse, it was a jarring and nearly irredeemable moment for his character. However, if you can look past that bit of family drama, the core relationship between Wyatt and Sally is phenomenal. It’s a raw, intimate, and mature love story that proves some cowboys are worth the ride.
