Book Description
He found me during the best time of my life.
Okay, it wasn’t exactly the best time of my life. I was on the side of the road, a flat tire on my truck, but I digress…
Which explains why I aimed my pepper spray at him when he approached. Honestly, a girl can never be too careful, especially when her daughter’s involved. Still…
He was everywhere in my new hometown.
No, he wasn’t a stalker. Just my knight in denim-clad armor, full of Southern charm and rugged good looks…he even called me ma’am.
And, when it mattered most, Cameron Brown was there on the worst day of my life. But will my pain bring back the trauma of his past?
About K.H. Oakes
K.H. Oakes lives in Northwest Arkansas with her husband and two kids. She is an occupational therapist by day, a parent by night, and an author in her “free” time. She enjoys hanging out with her family, traveling, reading a variety of romance books, playing tennis, and anything to do with animals. Sarcasm is her love language.
My Thoughts
Beyond the Pages by K.H. Oakes is an incredibly impressive debut that is emotional, heartfelt, and packed with all the feels. This small-town romance follows Rosalie, a devoted veterinarian and single mom, and Cameron, a charming single-dad accountant, as they navigate the complexities of healing and falling head over heels in love.
Their journey begins with a classic flat-tire "meet cute"—complete with Rosalie aiming pepper spray at her future knight in denim-clad armor—and evolves into a beautiful slow-burn story that made my heart so happy. I was deeply moved by the way Rosalie and Cameron found comfort in one another.
Rosalie’s determined spirit and the vulnerability she shows following a heartbreaking loss are truly admirable, while Cameron’s role as her steady, dreamy constant made me absolutely melt. Because they are both navigating the emotional toll of their pasts, they understand each other in ways no one else can.
Watching them support each other through their darkest days while their seven-year-old daughters, Paige and Addie, formed their own sweet friendship added a layer of warmth that kept me smiling throughout. This book has everything a romance lover could want: rugged Southern charm, horses, flirty banter, and heartfelt journals that lead to a deeply satisfying happy-ever-after.
The journey these two take to find true happiness and move forward from grief is both tugging at the heartstrings and incredibly life-affirming. If you enjoy intimate conversations, love declarations, and a supportive hero who gives his partner exactly what she needs, you will love Rosalie and Cameron’s story. I am already looking forward to seeing what K.H. Oakes writes next.
