I was incredibly excited for Piper Rayne to sweep me up in the surprise pregnancy trope with The Wild Card, and the experience was made even better by the incredible narration from Sean Masters and Erin Mallon. The addition of a full supporting cast, including Teddy Hamilton, Connor Crais, J.F. Harding, C.J. Bloom, Will Jaymes, Meg Sylvan, and Austin Stone, created a multicast performance that was absolutely top-tier. This story had so much depth and emotion, and the narration was so flawlessly done that I found myself completely captivated from start to finish.

Book Description

Getting pregnant after a one-night stand with my brother's best friend was never part of the plan.

We're talking about Foster Davis here.

Chicago Colts closing pitcher.
The broody king of one-word answers.
And the man everyone knows keeps one foot out the door.

Surprisingly, when two pink lines turn my world upside down, Foster doesn't run. He steps in, he shows up, and he insists we do this together.

Pretending we're fine is easy. Pretending this is just about the baby? Not so much.

Because Foster is gentle when no one's watching.
Because he looks at me like I'm something worth protecting.
Because the walls he's built start to crack—and I'm the one he's letting inside.

Our arrangement was supposed to be simple. Boundaries were set. Co-parents and no catching feelings.

Okay, maybe a few sex lessons were added in too. Bad idea, I know.

Because the more time I spend with Foster Davis, the harder it is to remember why I ever thought he was the risky choice.

My Thoughts

I was incredibly excited for Piper Rayne to sweep me up in the surprise pregnancy trope with The Wild Card, and the experience was made even better by the incredible narration from Sean Masters and Erin Mallon. The addition of a full supporting cast, including Teddy Hamilton, Connor Crais, J.F. Harding, C.J. This story had so much depth and emotion, and the narration was so flawlessly done that I found myself completely captivated from start to finish.

Getting pregnant after a one-night stand with her brother’s best friend was never part of the plan for our lead, especially when that man is Foster Davis. As the Chicago Colts' closing pitcher and the broody king of one-word answers, he is the man everyone knows always keeps one foot out the door. However, when those two pink lines turn her world upside down, Foster doesn't run. Instead, he steps in, shows up, and insists they navigate this new reality together.

Their arrangement was supposed to be simple, with clear boundaries set to remain co-parents without catching feelings. Of course, adding a few sex lessons into the mix turned out to be a risky move that blurred every line they drew. The more time they spend together, the harder it is to remember why he was ever considered the "risky" choice. Foster is surprisingly gentle when no one is watching, and the way he looks at her like she is something worth protecting made for such a beautiful, budding tension.

Piper Rayne has a beautiful way of writing deep emotion alongside perfectly sprinkled moments of laughter, and this book was everything I wanted it to be and more. Watching the walls Foster built start to crack was truly the highlight of the story for me. I loved seeing this new side of him as he let her inside his world, and I am already anticipating more from this series. The chemistry was off the charts, and the mixture of heart and humor made this an unforgettable listen.
