Kayley Loring’s Charmer is the epitome of a romantic comedy, masterfully blending deadpan humor and scorching heat with a deep emotional resonance that kept me riveted from the very first chapter. Loring has quickly become a favorite of mine for her ability to craft lighthearted, sexy escapes centered on relatable characters, and this story is no exception.

Book Description

NICO She serves me coffee late at night when I come around to write lyrics,
but it’s not the caffeine I’ve gotten addicted to. We’ve got the spark, but she’s the only woman in town who seems to be immune to my charms. When it’s time for me to leave for my cross-country tour, I just can’t imagine not seeing her for months. So I offer her a job on the road with me.

KAT Everyone in LA knows that Nico Todd has a way with songs and with the ladies. What he doesn’t know is that I would love to let him have his way with me.
But my life can only revolve around one infuriatingly cute guy—the six-year-old that I live with. Imagine my surprise when Nico finds out about my little boy and tells me to bring him and my mom on the road too. And imagine Nico’s surprise when he realizes my son is the biggest charmer of them all.

About Kayley Loring

Amazon Top 25 and USA Today bestselling author Kayley Loring spent many years as a screenwriter (under a different name) in Los Angeles before moving to the Pacific Northwest to live out her childhood dream of being a Disney heroine who talks and sings to woodland creatures. When not trying to keep animals alive, she’s writing steamy romantic comedy novels, obviously. She’s breathing cleaner air, writing dirtier words, and staring at her computer screen until her eyeballs dry out instead of prancing around Southern California in miniskirts and going to the hair salon. Still waiting for the woodland creatures to clean her house, though.

Read or listen to Kayley’s books when you want humor, heat, and heart. You’ll enjoy top-notch banter, strong heroines, lovable characters you’d want to know in real life and you’ll swoon over perfectly imperfect book boyfriends. All Kayley Loring books are steamy open door romance. Be sure to check out her next-level audiobooks!

My Thoughts

Kayley Loring’s Charmer is the epitome of a romantic comedy, masterfully blending deadpan humor and scorching heat with a deep emotional resonance that kept me riveted from the very first chapter. Loring has quickly become a favorite of mine for her ability to craft lighthearted, sexy escapes centered on relatable characters, and this story is no exception.

The narrative follows Kat, a devoted mother whose world revolves around her hilariously precocious six-year-old son, Tate, and Nico, a swoon-worthy musician who finds himself addicted to more than just the late-night caffeine Kat serves him. The heart of the story lies in Nico’s intentional, heartwarming effort to insert himself into Kat’s life, building the sense of family he’s always lacked through a budding, tender bond with Tate.

The experience is elevated to another level by the audiobook, narrated by Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder with appearances by Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon. The duet-style recording of Kat’s journal is a particular standout, allowing the narrators to interact in a way that feels incredibly immersive and entertaining.

While the plot provides plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and delightful side characters—like Nico’s grandmother and Kat’s mother—it also dives into the vulnerability required to break down walls and take a leap of faith. Nico proves himself to be the ultimate book boyfriend by embracing Kat’s entire life without hesitation, eventually inviting her, Tate, and her mother to join him on his cross-country tour.

Ultimately, this is a beautifully written and steamy journey about a "good girl" finally finding a man who deserves her, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a perfectly balanced rom-com with a "one-click" worthy premise.
