I was incredibly excited to finally reach the end of the Lucky Rivers Ranch series with Ryder by Jessica Peterson, and the narration by Stephen Dexter and Lila Winters was delivered with such flawless precision. It was the perfect way to wrap up the family's journey, seeing how all the Rivers boys have finally found their happy places with such incredible women. After following the brothers through the loss of their parents and watching Duke find his own happy ending, I was more than ready to see where Ryder’s path would lead.

Book Description

One hard fall in the rodeo ring.
One maddeningly gorgeous cowboy.
One chance at love she swore she’d never take.

Billie Wallace has spent her whole life trying to prove she’s more than the Wallace Ranch’s “wild” only daughter. All she wants is a shot at barrel racing—and a purpose beyond crunching numbers in her daddy’s office. But when her very first run ends in disaster, Billie lands flat on her back with Ryder Rivers—her childhood crush, her brother’s best friend, and the town’s notorious heartbreaker—hovering over her.

In all the years she's known him, Ryder has never entertained Billie's shameless flirting. But after her fall, he's suddenly everywhere—showing up to help her when she’s hurt, staring at her across the honky-tonk when she’s trying to move on with a bronc rider, and encouraging her to explore her dream career.

Before either can really register what’s happening, their partnership sparks into much more than just dust and arguments.
Late nights turn into stolen kisses. Stolen kisses turn into something that feels dangerously like forever. Ryder swears he’s not the staying kind, but the way he looks at Billie like she’s the only woman in the world makes everyone start to wonder if he’s ready to stop running…

About Jessica Peterson

Jessica Peterson writes romance with heat, humor, and heart. Heroes with hot accents are her specialty. When she’s not writing, she can be found bellying up to a bar in the south’s best restaurants with her husband Ben, reading books with her adorable daughters Gracie and Madeline, or snuggling up with her 70-pound lap dog, Martha.

A Carolina girl at heart, she fantasizes about splitting her time between Charleston and Asheville, but currently lives in Charlotte, NC.

My Thoughts

I was incredibly excited to finally reach the end of the Lucky Rivers Ranch series with Ryder by Jessica Peterson, and the narration by Stephen Dexter and Lila Winters was delivered with such flawless precision. It was the perfect way to wrap up the family's journey, seeing how all the Rivers boys have finally found their happy places with such incredible women. After following the brothers through the loss of their parents and watching Duke find his own happy ending, I was more than ready to see where Ryder’s path would lead.

The story introduces us to Billie Wallace, the "wild" only daughter of the Wallace Ranch, who is desperate to prove she’s more than just a bookkeeper in her father’s office. Her dream of barrel racing ends in a literal crash, and the first person over the rodeo fence to catch her is Ryder Rivers—her childhood crush, her brother’s best friend, and the town’s notorious heartbreaker. Billie is such a relatable firecracker; it was amazing to see her stand up for what she wanted and find her own purpose beyond her family’s expectations.

Ryder is easily one of my favorite male leads in romance. He’s the rugged, protective youngest brother who has spent years shutting off his emotions and giving everything to everyone else. Seeing him heal and finally let someone in was truly heartwarming. He and Billie make the funniest, most adorable couple, especially with a first chapter that gives the cutest backstory for their connection. Their chemistry is pure fire, and the way Ryder looks at Billie makes it clear he’s finally ready to stop running and start staying.

The book itself is wonderfully structured, and I was so thrilled that it included my favorite thing of all time: no third-act breakup! The plot was amazing, and the spice was perfectly tied into the character development. Jessica Peterson has tied up this series with a beautiful bow, and while I’m sad to say goodbye to the Rivers boys, the setup for the new Double U Ranch series has me so excited. This book truly earned its five-star rating—the world is simply not ready for Ryder Rivers.
