Book Description
Starting over was never part of the playbook.
Fresh off a failed marriage and years of putting everyone else first, Emmy Hudson returns to her small hometown determined to rebuild a life for her and her teenage son, Jace. With her brother close by and Jace joining the once-elite Mayhem Hockey Club, it seems like the perfect second chance.
Beckett Conway is back in Linwood for the worst a blown-out hip, a tanked NHL season, and a mom whose health is declining too fast for his liking. Coaching the local youth hockey team wasn’t on his rehab checklist, but watching Jace sneak onto his backyard pond to practice brings back everything he loved about this little mountain town.
Too bad Jace’s mom is sarcastic, stubborn, and somehow the most attractive woman he’s ever bantered with. As if that wasn’t enough, Emmy is his best friend’s sister and in charge of clearing him to play again.
Sparks fly, lines blur, and before long, Emmy discovers that maybe finding herself means letting someone else in, even if that someone was the last person she expected to fall for.

My Thoughts
The story begins with Emmy Hudson returning to her small hometown of Linwood after a difficult divorce, determined to rebuild a life centered around her teenage son, Jace. Her fresh start seems perfect when Jace joins the local, once-elite Mayhem Hockey Club. Meanwhile, Beckett Conway is back in Linwood nursing a blown-out hip that tanked his NHL season and dealing with his mother’s declining health. Though coaching the local youth hockey team wasn’t on his rehab checklist, he finds himself drawn to the rink—and specifically, to watching Jace practice on his backyard pond.
Sparks immediately fly between Beckett and Jace’s mom, Emmy. She is sarcastic, stubborn, and unexpectedly the most attractive woman he's ever bantered with. The complication? Emmy is his best friend's sister and the person in charge of clearing him to play hockey again. Their chemistry is electric, and their flirty, witty banter is some of the finest a reader could hope for, keeping the comedic tone spot on.
Emmy is a wonderfully tough, funny, and loving single mother who is fiercely protective of Jace. Watching her relationship with her son is a pure delight. Equally compelling is Beckett, who is grappling with his own journey of rebuilding a life he had left behind. His support for Emmy is quiet, loud, and perfect, and his relationship with Jace is genuinely moving. The book highlights the beauty of their individual journeys as well as how flawlessly they complement each other.
One of the book’s greatest strengths lies in its commitment to the hockey element and the superb crafting of the side characters. The book is a true sports romance that fully integrates the sport, offering the unique perspectives of both a dedicated hockey mom and a coach on the bench. Hockey is a palpable presence throughout the story. Furthermore, Vance creates a beautiful Linwood "found family" for Emmy and Beckett, from the delightful "girlies" to the fantastic bromances and the wonderful kids. The strong friendship vibes and the ensemble cast—including the junior and NHL teams—make this world one you immediately want to move into. Moms of Mayhem is an absolute beauty that hits all the right notes, leaving the reader eager for the rest of the series.
