I dove into Hockey Boy by Brittanee Nicole and was completely captivated. The audiobook version, narrated brilliantly by Teddy Hamilton and Samantha Brentmoor, elevated the entire experience. While the premise—reuniting with your ex-girlfriend who is now planning your wedding—initially gave me pause, knowing the sheer depth of Aiden's feelings for Lennox made me an immediate, willing participant.
Book Description
Lennox Kennedy is beautiful, loud, and the love of my life. She's also my ex-girlfriend.
Obviously, I did what any smart man would do—I called off the wedding. I don't have a plan per se, other than winning back the only girl I've ever loved.
As a future hall of famer and one of the best centers hockey has ever seen, I know a thing or two about winning. But convincing Lennox Kennedy to give this hockey boy another chance might just be the challenge of a lifetime and this game I'm playing may turn out to be nothing but a pucking disaster.
About Brittanee Nicole
My Thoughts
Aiden Langfield has officially arrived, and he is everything I hoped for and more! Packed with the signature laughs and heart-tugging moments that Brittanee Nicole always promises, Hockey Boy is a stellar beginning to the Boston Bolts series and a perfect conclusion to the Langfield brothers' search for love.
This story delivers a masterclass in the "boy obsessed" trope, fueled by Aiden’s incredible golden retriever energy and an explosive chemistry with Lennox Kennedy that brings plenty of heat. While I don’t always gravitate toward second-chance romances, the history between these two was written with such plausibility and care that I was completely swept away.
The narration by Teddy Hamilton and Samantha Brentmoor is absolute perfection—a true dream team. Teddy Hamilton’s performance is particularly breathtaking; he infuses so much raw emotion into Aiden’s character, especially during the more sensitive moments.
Brittanee Nicole handles the topic of mental health with beautiful respect, revealing that even someone as happy and light as Aiden can struggle with depression. As someone who understands the weight of that battle, I found the portrayal of his journey—and the message that it’s okay to seek help—to be deeply moving and authentic.
Samantha Brentmoor captures Lennox’s balance of fun-loving spirit and hidden vulnerability flawlessly. It was wonderful to watch her evolution from a woman afraid of settling into the rock Aiden truly needs.
The plot kicks off with a bang, giving us the satisfaction of seeing the "trash taken out" early as Aiden realizes he’s engaged to the wrong woman the second he sees Lennox, their new wedding planner. The Wedding Planner meets 90s/00s nostalgia vibes are top-tier, especially when Aiden decides to call off his wedding but keeps it a secret just to stay close to Lex.
When their history as childhood sweethearts crashes into a "fake dating" marriage-of-convenience plot to secure Lennox’s trust fund, the narrative becomes impossible to put down. It was so rewarding to see moments from previous books—like Aiden’s infamous distracted crash against the plexiglass—revisited from their direct perspective.
Beyond the central romance, the Langfield family dynamics remain a highlight. The chaotic energy of the group text chains and the fierce loyalty of the brothers—culminating in a hilarious moment where the older siblings jump into a fight to defend their "baby" brother—make the setting feel so rich.
Though the cast is large, every character feels integral to the story’s soul. Hockey Boy is a fun, sexy, and healing read that proves your first kiss can absolutely be your last. I cannot recommend this story, or this incredible narration team, highly enough!
