Book Description

I’ve hated Walker Harlow for ten years.

Not because I wanted to—because he made me.

On the night of my graduation, I snuck into his room, heart racing, finally ready to show him the crush I’d kept hidden for years. One touch, one moment, should’ve been everything. Instead, he went off on me, shredding my pride and leaving scars that never fully healed.

He’s my best friend’s older brother. The man I swore I’d never forgive.

And now? He’s the man on the other end of the phone, begging me for help.

Walker didn’t plan on raising a baby alone, but Eli changed everything. And against my better judgment, I answer his call. Because the truth is, no matter how much I tell myself I hate him, my heart never learned how to stop wanting him.

But being near him again is dangerous. His secrets run deep, his walls are higher than ever—and mine are crumbling faster than I can rebuild them.

If I let him in this time, it won’t just be my pride on the line. It’ll be my heart.

My Thoughts

His Redemption by Nicole Baker is a captivating installment in the series that fully delivers the long-awaited story of Walker, instantly hooking the reader from the first page. The novel centers on Walker Harlow and Jessie, two people bound by family ties—Jessie is best friends with Walker's sister—but separated by a strained, ten-year history.

The tension between them stems from a devastating moment nine years ago. On her graduation night, Jessie finally worked up the courage to express her long-held crush on Walker, only for him to harshly reject her, shredding her pride and leaving emotional scars. She swore she'd never forgive the man she had secretly wanted for years, but her heart never learned to stop wanting him.

Their strained avoidance is shattered when Walker is suddenly left alone with a daughter, Eli, he never knew existed. With nowhere else to turn, he is forced to call the one person he knows he shouldn't: Jessie. Against her better judgment, Jessie answers his plea for help, setting up an explosive forced proximity scenario.

The chemistry between these two is absolutely scorching, immediately apparent when a certain changing room scene happens. Jessie is no longer the eighteen-year-old girl who was easily dismissed, and being near him again is dangerous for both of them. Walker's walls are higher than ever, and Jessie's are crumbling faster than she can rebuild them, putting her heart squarely on the line.

Beyond the romance, Jessie's immediate and instinctual connection with Eli is incredibly sweet; she just knew when the child needed help and showed up. The story is full of heart-stopping moments, like a particularly revealing phone call scene, and the central secret behind Walker's coldness is truly surprising and sweet. He kept his distance all that time out of fear of accidentally telling Jessie the truth and flipping her world upside down. The reader is entirely relieved when he finally tells her, allowing them to truly be together.

Nicole Baker is a brilliant writer who keeps the audience completely obsessed, eating up every page. While I personally would have appreciated a bit more world-building detail, such as specifics about Walker's apartment, the emotional depth, incredible chemistry, and surprising secret make this a deeply satisfying and unputdownable read.
