Narrated by the talented Emma Wilder and Sean Masters, "Hold the Line" by Julia Wolf is a standout romance that tells a moving story of love, healing, and second chances. This book, which can be read as a standalone, is my first introduction to the author, and it's an absolute five-star read.

Book Description

Deacon Slater was my high school crush—the bad boy with haunted eyes that made my heart skip a beat. But in our small town, the Slater name is synonymous with trouble, and Deke lived up to it when he landed in prison a few years after graduation.

He served his time and now he’s back, living in the apartment above mine, covered in ink and even more intriguing than before.

As the owner of Sugar Rush bakery, I’m used to building bridges with my muffins and cookies. I’ve seen cowboys nearly come to blows over the last lemon bar. But Deke wants nothing to do with my treats…or me. He keeps his distance, barely speaking when I knock on his door.

Until the day he doesn’t have a choice.

He’s there when I need him, stepping in to protect me, showing me the caring man beneath his rough edges.

We couldn’t be more different. I’m a curvy ray of sunshine in a pink apron and he’s a stoic, tattooed carpenter in work boots. But the more walls we tear down, the closer we get. And piece by piece, we discover how well we fit.

But when darkness from his past comes looking for him, what we’re building could all fall apart. Because this time, trouble isn’t just circling Deacon Slater.

It’s coming for us both.

About Julia Wolf

Julia Wolf writes sexy rockers, grumpy billionaires, snarky heroines, and bad ass women. She’s a firm believer in happily ever afters, no matter how rocky the road is to get there.

She doesn’t believe in “guilty pleasures”, only pleasure. Reading about a plus size woman who gets absolutely railed by a hot rock star is pleasure. Reading about a damaged college student whose flaws are valued and loved by the grumpy guy next door is pleasure. Reading about love in a small town or big city or on a tour bus is pleasure. Reading romance is pleasure!

Julia lives in Maryland with her husband and three crazy, beautiful children. When she’s not writing romance, she’s reading it. Some of her favorite things are, in no particular order: goats, books, coffee, and Target.

My Thoughts

Narrated by the talented Emma Wilder and Sean Masters, "Hold the Line" by Julia Wolf is a standout romance that tells a moving story of love, healing, and second chances. This book, which can be read as a standalone, is my first introduction to the author, and it's an absolute five-star read.

The story centers on Deacon Slater, a mysterious bad boy who was my high school crush. In our small town, his last name is synonymous with trouble, a reputation he lived up to when he went to prison a few years after graduation. Now, he's back, living in the apartment above mine. With his body covered in ink, he’s more intriguing than ever, but he's also more withdrawn. He wants nothing to do with my baked goods from Sugar Rush bakery, and he keeps his distance, barely speaking to me.

I, Phoebe, am his complete opposite. A self-proclaimed curvy ray of sunshine in a pink apron, I’m used to building bridges with my muffins and cookies. Yet, Deacon, a stoic, tattooed carpenter, resists my every attempt at friendship. But everything changes the day he has no choice but to step in and protect me. He shows me the caring man hidden beneath his rough exterior, and as we begin to tear down walls, we discover how perfectly we fit together.

The romance between Deacon and Phoebe develops slowly and feels incredibly natural. Their journey isn't perfect, which makes it all the more realistic and engaging. As we get to know Deacon and Phoebe through their dual points of view, we see their emotional growth. He learns to trust again, and she teaches him that he is worthy of love. Their connection is sweet and heartfelt, proving that even the most unlikely people can find their way to one another.

However, their newfound happiness is threatened when darkness from Deacon’s past resurfaces. This time, the trouble isn't just for him—it's coming for us both.

This book made me feel a wide range of emotions, from laughter to tears, and I didn't want to put it down. The beautiful narration and compelling characters make this a must-read for anyone who loves romance, especially stories about finding love after difficult times.
